Mobile learning, utilizing various devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and PDAs, has become an essential component of modern healthcare education and practice. Its implementation enhances communication, patient monitoring, and education, especially evident in specialized fields like nephrology and dialysis care. Mobile devices facilitate real-time data collection and transmission, empowering home dialysis patients to actively participate in their treatment management. For instance, iPads and other mobile tools are employed to record vital signs, monitor dialysis access, and report issues directly to healthcare providers, enabling prompt intervention and fostering patient engagement (Shan-Wei et al., 2022). Additionally, telehealth platforms like Microsoft Teams allow healthcare professionals to conduct remote consultations, ensuring continuity of care in a variety of settings, including home-based treatments.
This technological integration significantly improves patient outcomes by increasing communication, engagement, and efficiency. Shan-Wei et al. (2022) found that mobile technology enhances nurse-patient communication, leading to greater patient satisfaction and better treatment results. Moreover, mobile tech supports time management for nurses and reduces barriers to information sharing. However, challenges such as unreliable internet access and technological literacy, especially among older patients, impede universal adoption. Technical malfunctions, including app failures, can disrupt workflows and patient care, highlighting the importance of reliable systems support. Roles like systems educators and superusers are vital to mitigate these issues, providing training and troubleshooting to ensure seamless technology use (Sewell, 2019). Overall, mobile technology’s integration into healthcare exemplifies its pivotal role in advancing safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
