This preface introduces myself and shares my understanding of the concept of politics. I am Eunjung Kim, a 22-year-old student from South Korea, majoring in Business Merchandising. Coming from South Korea, a country with a rich history of political development and social change, I have a nuanced perspective on politics shaped by my cultural and national experiences. In my view, politics encompasses the processes, institutions, and activities through which societal decisions are made and enforced, shaping the distribution of power and resources. I believe politics is vital for fostering social justice, economic development, and national stability. My political sensibilities lean toward valuing social equity and active civic engagement, recognizing the importance of policy for societal progress. Understanding politics as an ongoing dialogue among diverse stakeholders allows me to appreciate the importance of inclusivity and informed participation in shaping a better future.

The essence of politics lies in the complex mechanisms that societies utilize to organize power, allocate resources, and uphold social order. As a student from South Korea, a nation with a dynamic political history marked by rapid democratization and social transformation, I perceive politics as an indispensable facet of societal function. My understanding is shaped by witnessing how political decisions influence every aspect of daily life, from economic policies to social justice initiatives. Politics, in my view, is not merely a domain of politicians and government officials; it is a collective activity that involves citizens, civil society, and institutions working together to shape societal norms and policies that reflect their values and aspirations.

Growing up in South Korea, I have observed firsthand the impact of political activism and civic engagement. South Korea's journey towards democracy, overcoming authoritarian rule, underscores the importance of political participation and activism in fostering change. This history has instilled in me the belief that politics should be inclusive, transparent, and accountable to the citizens it serves. I understand politics as a means to promote social equity, ensure fair opportunities, and address inequalities that exist within society.

My political sensibilities are also influenced by my cultural background and global awareness. I value policies that foster social justice and economic fairness, recognizing the interconnectedness of these issues within South Korea and across the world. I believe that active civic engagement and informed participation are crucial for a healthy democracy. As a student of Business Merchandising, I am aware of the economic dimensions of politics and how policies can promote sustainable development and responsible business practices.

In conclusion, my understanding of politics is rooted in the belief that it is a vital process that shapes societal values, empowers citizens, and fosters social progress. As someone who comes from a nation undergoing rapid change, I see politics as a tool for creating a more equitable and inclusive society, where diverse voices are heard and respected.
