Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 14 of Northouse (2018) and Chapter 2 of Oededekoven (2018). Locate the eight team effectiveness indicators (Northouse, 2018). Develop a strategy to use two out of eight indicators to improve the performance of an organizational team that you have observed or were part of during your career. In support of your strategy also incorporate at least one of Oededekoven’s (2018) six C’s of teamwork into your discussion. Your discussion post should be 250 words.

Effective teamwork is essential for organizational success, and understanding key indicators of team effectiveness can significantly enhance team performance. Northouse (2018) identifies eight critical indicators of team effectiveness: clear goals, roles and responsibilities, open and honest communication, trust among team members, effective leadership, a shared sense of purpose, mutual accountability, and adaptability to change. Focusing on two of these indicators—trust among team members and open communication—can markedly improve team performance.

To foster trust within a team, I propose implementing regular team-building activities and transparent communication practices. These initiatives promote mutual respect and understanding, which are the foundation for trust. Leaders should model transparency by sharing information openly and encouraging feedback, which not only builds trust but also enhances collaboration. By establishing a culture of trust, team members are more likely to share ideas freely, take risks, and support one another, leading to improved problem-solving and innovation.

Pairing this with Northouse’s indicator of open communication creates a synergistic effect. Effective communication ensures clarity of purpose, minimizes misunderstandings, and promotes accountability. Encouraging active listening and providing platforms for open dialogue can foster inclusivity and ensure all voices are heard, leading to more cohesive teamwork.

In support of this strategy, Oededekoven’s (2018) six C’s of teamwork—Communication, Cooperation, Commitment, Coherence, Coordination, and Confidence—compliment these efforts. Specifically, emphasizing Communication and Confidence helps solidify trust and open dialogue. When team members communicate effectively and feel confident in their roles, the team is better equipped to adapt to challenges and achieve goals efficiently. Integrating these indicators and principles creates a robust framework for enhancing organizational team performance.
