Prior To Completing This Quiz Make Sure You Have Read For At Least 2
Prior to completing this quiz, make sure you have read for at least 2 hours during this learning week. Remember, you may read a longer selection, such as a novel, spread over several weeks, or you may read a combination of items (such as articles, essays, shorter works of fiction, etc.), as long as your reading adds up to 2 hours. Ultimately, you should select something you are interested in reading. As a reminder, social media and materials assigned in the course are not permitted for this task. This is an opportunity to read something you’ve perhaps put off due to other events in your life.
Complete this quiz by Day 7. You will provide the title and a short description of what you are reading, but keep in mind that this is not a book report. The purpose of this quiz is to reflect on your experience as you read. The quiz contains three short-answer questions and is worth 2% of your course grade. You will have 30 minutes to complete the quiz.
It is recommended you draft your answers in a Word document prior to starting the quiz to ensure you have enough time to thoroughly reflect and respond within the quiz time limit.
Paper For Above instruction
1. Titles of the reading material:
The novel I chose to read this week is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Additionally, I read several articles on climate change from reputable sources like National Geographic and The Guardian.
2. Brief summaries of each item:
The Great Gatsby is a story set in the 1920s that explores themes of wealth, love, and the American Dream. It follows the life of Jay Gatsby, a mysteriously wealthy man who throws extravagant parties in hopes of rekindling a lost love. The articles about climate change discuss the current environmental crises, highlighting the causes, effects, and potential solutions to global warming and ecological degradation.
3. Reflection on the reading experience:
I chose The Great Gatsby because I am interested in American literature and the Roaring Twenties era. The book offers a fascinating glimpse into the social dynamics and values of that time, reflecting on materialism and the pursuit of happiness, which resonate with contemporary issues. Reading the novel has been engaging and thought-provoking, making me reflect on how the themes of illusion and reality are relevant today. The language and symbolism in Fitzgerald’s writing challenged me initially, but I appreciated the depth he achieved with subtle details.
The climate change articles were insightful, providing updated scientific information and encouraging me to consider my own environmental impact. I found that reading about urgent global issues motivates me to stay informed and engaged. Overall, I am pleased with my selection as it combines both literary enjoyment and a sense of social responsibility. My reading process involved actively analyzing the texts and contemplating their relevance, which enhanced my understanding and connection to the material.
