Program of Study: PhD in Forensic Psychology specialization in victimology. Social Problem: The recidivisms rate amongst are far higher amongst Juveniles then adults with the rate being 75% within three years. There is a great need for research on effective rehabilitation and re-entry programs that will include mental health and substance abuse programs that will assist with decreasing recidivism.
Qualitative Research Problem: The scholarly community does not know the benefits to which re-entry programs that includes substance abuse and mental health before release could contribute to reducing juvenile recidivism.
Qualitative Research Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study is to identify the benefits of implementation of re-entry programs that include mental health and substance programs and the reduction in juvenile recidivism.
Qualitative Research Question: What is the percentage of juveniles who has re-offended and was not offered a re-entry program that includes mental health and substance abuse compared to juveniles who was presented with a re-entry program that includes mental health and substance counseling.
Theoretical or Conceptual Framework: The Conceptual Framework for this research study would be the IAP mode (Intensive Aftercare Program). The model was researched and implemented by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (1998). The conceptual framework of this project was to reduce juvenile recidivism by implementing strategic services and counseling to juvenile offenders while incarcerated, prerelease, community reentry programs, and on community supervision.
Implementing the IAP model found that juvenile offenders that were provided with counseling services performed far better than juveniles released without counseling services.
Qualitative Research Design: A summative evaluation will be implemented on three juvenile programs to determine the effectiveness of these programs in reintegrating juveniles back into their community. According to Patton (1990), assessing the overall effectiveness of a program, policy, or product involves understanding the characteristics that impact recidivism, specifically the characteristics of the juvenile programs and their associated recidivism rates.
Qualitative Sampling Strategy: The sampling will involve a summative evaluation of three juvenile programs, focusing on their features and recidivism statistics.
Qualitative Data Collection Method: Data will be gathered through observations and questionnaires administered to program participants, aimed at understanding the positives and negatives of the programs, the specific programs implemented, and the follow-through of participants.
