Project Proposal As stated in the assignment description, curriculum covers an array of topics. However, while in grade school, I always considered curriculum to be strictly school work. So, now that I am a teacher on the journey to leadership; I always attempt to make sure myself, my students, and my colleagues view the curriculum as more than just school work. In my opinion, the curriculum sets the foundation school-wide, in every aspect. By aspects of the curriculum, I am not only referencing academic aspects; I am referencing school culture, community connections, parental involvement, and school diversity.
I name all of those things because I strongly believe that they all play a major role in setting the foundation of the “school curriculum,” because in reality the school will not function properly if all of those things are not solidified or at least being attempted to be solidified. With that being said, when thinking of a topic for my final project; I wanted to make sure that I target all of those areas because they all set the foundation of the school. As my final project, I am interested in creating an action research plan that will allow me to target the school curriculum that will set the foundation for the school as a whole next year, targeting all of the topics that I named above. In this action research plan, I would like to drive my theory based off of my previous experiences at other schools and see if my actions will support that theory.
I am still brainstorming on exactly how I would format the plan, but my biggest thing is making sure that I target every area. I thought that this was a good project to do in the summer while I have a lot of time to reflect on my previous experiences inside of school buildings. I also think setting the foundation and starting with actions as soon as the school year starts is a very important aspect of creating this action research plan before the school year begins.

The foundation of a successful and inclusive school environment relies heavily on the comprehensive development and implementation of a school-wide curriculum that extends beyond traditional academic subjects. This holistic approach involves integrating school culture, community connections, parental involvement, and school diversity into the curriculum framework. Recognizing these components as vital to the overall success of the school, I am motivated to develop an action research plan aimed at strengthening these areas for the upcoming academic year.
School culture forms the core of an effective learning environment. It encompasses the values, beliefs, and behaviors that characterize the school community. A positive school culture fosters a sense of belonging, safety, and mutual respect among students, staff, and parents. To enhance school culture, my action research will include strategies such as establishing clear expectations, promoting positive behavior reinforcement, and implementing culturally responsive teaching practices. These actions aim to create an environment where all members feel valued and supported, which is essential for academic and social-emotional growth (Lindsey, 2019).
Community connections serve as vital links between the school and the broader community it serves. Building robust partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community leaders can provide additional resources and real-world learning opportunities for students. To solidify community involvement, I propose initiating collaborative projects, community service programs, and regular communication channels. These initiatives can foster trust and shared responsibility, making the school a reflection of the community’s needs and aspirations (Epstein, 2018).
Parental involvement is another critical factor influencing student achievement and overall school success. Engaging parents in meaningful ways can improve student motivation, attendance, and behavior. My action plan will incorporate parent workshops, volunteer opportunities, and effective communication strategies to foster active parental participation. Encouraging parents to be stakeholders in their children’s education not only supports academic achievement but also strengthens familial bonds and community cohesion (Henderson & Mapp, 2019).
Finally, school diversity and inclusivity are crucial for preparing students for a multicultural society. Developing a curriculum that respects and incorporates diverse perspectives promotes empathy, reduces bias, and enhances cultural competence. To this end, I intend to review and diversify instructional materials, incorporate multicultural education strategies, and facilitate dialogues around diversity and equity (Gay, 2018).
My proposed action research plan will be informed by my previous experiences at different schools, where I observed that addressing these areas holistically leads to a more dynamic and effective learning environment. I plan to set measurable goals, collect data through surveys and observations, and adjust strategies based on feedback throughout the year. Initiating these actions during the summer break will allow for thorough planning and implementation at the start of the academic year, ensuring a cohesive approach from day one.
Ultimately, my goal is to foster a school environment where culture, community, parental engagement, and diversity are prioritized and seamlessly integrated into the school curriculum. This comprehensive approach aims to create a nurturing space conducive to academic excellence, social-emotional development, and preparing students for a diverse and interconnected world.
