When I began writing my art annotation for this class, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had never really written about art or had much formal art education. So, I approached the assignment with curiosity. I wondered what insights I could gain about art through writing. As I engaged more deeply with artworks and the artists behind them, I discovered how much of myself and my personal reflections I could find within the artworks.

Contemplating each image provided me with the space and time to experiment and reflect on my own learning and experiences, independent of any competition or rigid structure. This sense of freedom was profoundly liberating. Despite the ominous signs of global crises I observed throughout the semester, this art annotation became one of my most enjoyable assignments. It offered me a chance to be openly introspective, to approach each piece with my thoughts, and to observe how my perspectives evolved over time as we studied different artworks. Through this process, I appreciated learning about diverse artists—creative individuals whose work fosters meaningful interaction, emotions, and reflection, evoking feelings of joy, sadness, appreciation, and excitement.

Throughout the semester, I learned to identify the emotions each artwork evoked in me and to consider the underlying intentions of the artist. This focus on emotional nuance prompted me to examine more detailed aspects of each piece, leading to a deeper appreciation of the artists’ work. As the course progressed, I found myself increasingly eager for the weekly art annotations. They not only enabled me to interpret famous works in a personal way but also strengthened my connection to the course. This process transformed my perception of art, allowing me to enjoy and interpret artworks with fresh eyes. Moreover, it fostered a greater sense of closeness and affection toward art in general.

The texts we studied during the course reshaped how I experience and interpret art. Previously, I viewed literature and visual art as separate pursuits, but I now see how they can complement each other and enrich one another’s understanding. Almost everything we encounter in daily life involves some form of visual language or artistic expression.
