Over the course of my RN-BSN program at Western Carolina University (WCU), my understanding and perception of change theory, management roles, nursing leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and the nurse management role in patient care have significantly evolved. These areas are essential components for fostering high-quality, patient-centered care and exemplify professional nursing values. Reflecting upon my academic journey, particularly through courses such as NURS 510 and LDR 432, has deepened my appreciation for how these concepts underpin effective nursing practice and leadership.
Change theory, notably Lewin’s Change Model, has become foundational in understanding how healthcare organizations implement change. Through academic assignments, I analyzed how unfreezing, changing, and refreezing stages facilitate successful transformation. This understanding has translated into my clinical experiences, where I recognize the importance of leadership in managing change effectively. I support transformational leadership models, which emphasize inspiring staff, fostering collaboration, and promoting innovation—elements I observed in my coursework and clinical practice.
