Students will select a question, statement, or topic from the course text and develop a research paper with a minimum length of three pages. The paper must focus on analyzing or exploring the chosen topic in depth, providing a well-supported argument or discussion.

The paper must utilize a minimum of five scholarly articles or credible sources as references. At least two of these sources should be primary, original research articles that are scientific in nature. Articles may also include web-based resources, interviews, or other reputable publications, provided they are properly cited.

The topic you choose could relate to issues such as crime victimization, criminal justice theories, social science research, or related themes discussed in your course. For example, you might examine why African American male youths experience higher victimization rates for violent crimes, supporting your analysis with evidence from scientific articles.

All submissions must be prepared in APA format, double-spaced with 12-point Times New Roman font and 1-inch margins on all sides. The paper should be submitted electronically through the eCourseware system. It is highly recommended to consult with your instructor before submission to ensure adherence to guidelines.

Students are required to keep an electronic copy of their paper as a record of their work. While incorporating graphs, figures, or other supporting materials can enhance the paper, these do not count toward the page minimum, which is based solely on the textual content. A references section must be included and does not count toward the page limit.

The research paper accounts for 20% of the final grade. Students have the opportunity to revise and re-submit their paper for a new grade, with the final grade being the average of both submissions. The paper is due during Week Eleven on November 6, with further assignments and presentations scheduled in subsequent weeks, culminating in examinations and optional re-submissions during exam week in December.
