Complete a critical self-reflection of your current leadership strengths and areas for further development. The assignment consists of conducting a self-assessment of leadership attributes important for you and supported by evidence-based literature. It also includes the development of your personal mission and vision statement and a plan for your leadership development.

1. Assessment of your leadership attributes and skills, both strengths as well as areas that would benefit from focused development. Describe how you determined your strengths and areas requiring development (which assessment tools did you use and what is your analysis of your results). Complete the Student Leadership Practices Inventory (SLPI) and at least three other external leadership assessment tools, one of which should be focused on conflict management. Your paper should include your analysis of the results from the assessment tools.

2. A mission (brief description of your purpose) and vision statement (a brief description of your desired future) for yourself as a nurse leader.

3. Based on your leadership assessment and vision and mission statement, outline a plan for your leadership development. This plan should include both short-term (within the next six months) as well as longer-term goals for your development as a leader. The goals should focus specifically on leadership skill development using the SMART goal criteria (specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and timely). A minimum of three goals should be identified.

4. Describe the outcome for each of your goals. How will you measure achievement of each goal? How will you evaluate your progress towards your goals?

5. What will your practice and professional life look like in three to five years?

This paper should be 5-8 pages and include at least four scholarly references in addition to the references for the assessment tools and required readings. APA (7th ed.) format should be used for this paper. A table may be used to capture your leadership development plan with your SMART goals, outcomes, and evaluation plan for each goal. The landscape of leadership is constantly evolving, especially within nursing, where leaders are not only expected to provide high-quality care but also to inspire and guide their teams. With an increasing focus on collaborative environments, understanding one’s leadership style and capability is crucial. This paper aims to conduct a critical self-reflection of my leadership strengths and areas for development, based on various assessment tools.

To begin with, I completed the Student Leadership Practices Inventory (SLPI) alongside three additional external leadership assessments: the Conflict Management Style Assessment, How Good Are Your Leadership Skills?, and the StrengthsFinder assessment. Each tool provided valuable insights into my leadership behaviors. According to the SLPI, I found my strongest skills were in the domains of enabling others to act and modeling the way, which were corroborated by positive feedback from peers regarding my collaborative approach and ethical decision-making. However, the assessments revealed that I need to enhance my skills in conflict resolution and influence, indicating a gap that necessitates further development.

Based on the findings from the assessments, I articulate my personal mission as follows: "To foster an empowering environment in healthcare that promotes collaborative practice and advocates for patient-centered care." My vision statement is "To be a valued leader recognized for embedding excellence in nursing practice, inspiring peers, and advancing healthcare outcomes." To achieve my leadership development objectives, I have established a three-tiered plan focusing on short-term and long-term goals using SMART criteria:

Additionally, my vision for my professional life in three to five years includes taking on a leadership position that emphasizes mentorship while continuing to advocate for systemic improvements in nursing practice, thereby aligning my personal aspirations with broader organizational goals.

In conclusion, self-reflection through organized assessments leads to greater awareness of one’s strengths and areas needing improvement. Establishing a clear mission and vision provides direction and purpose, while a well-structured development plan facilitates achieving leadership growth.
