Review Assignment due Date: October 16th via email/MS Document When writing a review, please utilize the following guidelines regarding content: 1. Attend the final dress rehearsal of the OUMT production of CABARET. You may attend this night’s performance for free. If you are unable to attend on this day, you will be required to attend one of the performances; ticket price = $10. Please write a brief description of the story line (if attending a play, musical opera and/or if a choreographed piece merits such a response).

3. Please indicate if this is a “new work” or a production based on an established play, musical, opera, etc. If it is a new work, would more work/focus on re-writing (cuts, new songs, new lines) be appropriate? IF THIS IS A REVIVAL PRODUCTION, please give a very brief history on its origin. 4.

Please write about the following items if pertinent: A. What style of dance (jazz, ballet, tap, modern, folk, etc.). Who choreographed the work? B. What type of music (jazz, opera, classical, contemporary, post tonal, etc., etc.) and who are the composer(s)? Who was the music director? C. If the production contains a script/libretto/spoken dialogue, what is its style? (similar to modern theatre, classical theatre, little dialogue, etc.). Who wrote the script? Who directed the production? D. What did you like most within the aforementioned areas? Please also include your thoughts on the set, costume, and lighting design elements (if a musical, did the music work seamlessly with dialogue, etc., etc.). E. What did you like least? (Could you understand the actors? Was the music sung well or danced with accuracy and grace? Comment on these areas in both a positive and critical bent if appropriate).

5. Please allow for up to four to six pages of written review (no less than 4 FULL pages). Please make sure that the lines are double spaced so that I may read it more easily and make corrections/suggestions within that spacing.

If you utilize any source to discuss an established work’s performance, please give the appropriate credit within the review (e.g., “Larry Stempel, in his book SHOWTIME, discussed the story line of the Black Crook as…”). 8. The review is worth 100 points. 9. Additional performance reviews (plays or musicals or operas) will be given 25 extra credit points to your overall grade. You may write no more than two (2) for extra credit. The first review must be turned in for credit to be given to additional reviews.
