Running Head Robbery Scenariorobbery Scenario 4cjus201 1204b 02 P4i
The involvement of an officer in the scenario is a vital contributing factor to the occurrence. It is the responsibility of the police to maintain law and order with accordance to the constitution. My colleague and I were at surveillance at the particular local store. It being our responsibility, we had to use our authorized means to get down to the information about the attack. A certain man of age thirty-five years was our confidential informer who had received the clue from his friend Alice, who is known to be a drug addict.
The woman was aged twenty-seven years and so we needed to take it with seriousness. The main issue was robbery, which had been previously witnessed in other stores from the neighbouring county. Two Asian men, Lee, a.k.a LT and Kim popularly known as KK, of ages thirty-one and twenty-nine years respectively were the main suspects of the robberies. Alice was one of the major elements of the scenario and she played her role in the way she provided the tip of the intended robbery. It is a good idea to inform any responsible person on any noticed event that would be disastrous or would affect the lives of other individuals.
The secret informer played an important role in informing us about the intentions of the robberies. A certain citizen explained to us that she had heard gunfire and saw someone who appeared like an Asian man walking straight to the stores with a gun in his pocket. According to this citizen, john, the man walked out of the stores and went to the parking lot. According to our investigation, there were several properties stolen from the stores, which included money of worth one hundred dollars. After taking out our weapons, we ordered to Asian man to lie down with his hands above his head so that we could arrest him for further investigations.
After a short while before we had arrested him, a certain women was coming from inside a car crying out that she needed to know why her husband was on the ground. Some investigative forms helped us to take details on all what had happened. The owners of the stores were expected to fill the forms indicating the amount of goods stolen, the available quantity at that time and the initial stock. After the rumours that robbery had occurred in the neighbouring county, we had to carry put our patrol in the areas with big stores. To ensure safety of property is a sufficient cause to be at stake at any place, for police officers.
We did not violate the Asian man’s civil rights. One is supposed to be submissive and obey the police orders, which includes carrying your hands up to enable investigations to take place (Uildriks, 2005). We were forced to arrest the man for disobeying our orders as police officers. Furthermore, we could not allow the woman to interrupt with our investigations by asking us to leave her husband alone, since anything could have been their plan. Every person is entitled to protection and the enjoyment of his/her personal rights.
Anybody that violates the rights of an individual is subject to the law regardless of his position in the society. If the police could have violated his rights, I as the chief would as well support some form of disciplinary action against them. After realizing that the Asian man was the business owner, and that he had come to assess the damage caused by the robbers, I would therefore not find it right that his wife be entitled to collect the damages in the stores. This is because the police investigation was not yet done and that they would require carrying out their investigations based on the real situation of the stores. As protectors of the law, we could not engage in racial profiling since it is our duty to prove justice to all people.
I would support the creation of the citizen review board. This is because it stands for what is right and administers justice to all citizens. It would ensure respect of the human rights and eliminate racial discrimination. Carrying out some detailed investigations and the observance of the public law, in addition to how people should maintain it, is the responsibility of the police. The police are entitled to make certain non-violent orders to suspects of a certain crime, so investigations can be done.
The violation of human rights is forbidden. Anyone who violates the human rights is subject to the law, regardless to his/her position in the society. An investigative board for the police would be important to ensure that the police provide the right services to the citizens with accordance to the law (Crawshaw, 2008).
