Rough draft 3 Quintarean Lawrence Liberty University 6/5/18 The Ultimate Survival I felt that I had been abandoned in the desert, but when it came home, I also felt very lonely as well. Perhaps, part of me had been left dead in the deserted wilderness as my brothers died. We deployed to the deserts of Iraq to extract an American who had been captured by a group of Taliban while patrolling. January 1st, 2005, we were dropped off at 00:00 hours. I could hear the pitch of the helicopter changing and the voice of the pilot counting, “five, four, three….†Everything was electric, and I remember that experience as it were yesterday, it is statued on my brain making me unable to forget.
As the alpha element, I was tasked with leading the rest of my platoon members through the route that was given to us by our intelligence officer. We were dropped off near the village that was the hideout of the group. First, it occurred to me how dark and cold it was. Around this village was a wall. Stan, our weapon expert, would take the lead from this point on.
He would walk about 10 meters ahead of us to ensure that the path we took had no Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). Finally, we got a break at the wall; Stan had to let me take the lead. I was astonished by how deserted the village was. Our combat controller communicated with our commander who for some combat reasons instructed us to wait until morning. We found a haven behind a specific hut and decided we would rest there as we expect for further instructions.
First light was beginning to come out on the eastern horizon. Everything was going on well; we were having a chat with my fellow alpha element Tory. All over sudden, I look up to my left and saw two individuals on the roof of a building. “It’s not good! Tory look up!†I told him murmuring.
It seems like they had not seen us. I knew that if anything went wrong, these troops would be on top of us in minutes. All over sudden, I head a deafening thud! It was a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). Soon, this village turned into an inferno.
All I could hear was a crackling thumb. This was definitely a kill zone. “Everybody rebound!†the commander yelled on the radio. I lead the way out of the break in the wall, and we began running towards our drop off point. After a short while, I turned back, Stan was there, Tory was there and no one else.
It couldn’t get any worse. Before I could even fathom what had happened to use, I just saw Stan fall, before I could take another step, I heard another loud thud! Somebody had stepped on an IED. I tried to lift my weapon as if in a tactical position but I couldn’t. Blood was oozing out of my left arm.
It looked as if had been bleeding for a while; I was now beginning to fade away. From far, a sound I was familiar with, they were cobras throwing missiles and firing their machine guns. “Alpha element found!†that is the last thing I heard over the radio. The next time I came to, my mother, father, and younger brother were beside me. I had survived, but what was killing me was my friends who aren’t coming back and the devastation on their families.
Driving Under Influence Laws
An estimate of 30% of the fatal crashes of cars involves the intoxicated pedestrian and drivers. Over 1.5 million drivers arrested worldwide since 2011 for driving under the influence of the alcohol and any other brain washing drugs. The fact is that, around the 4,000 injured drivers test positive for drug involvement. This has led the car crashes to be a leading cause of death for the teens of which, almost a quarter of the crashes involving the underaged drinking drivers. The topic,‘’Laws on driving under influence’’, was determined due to a number of causes of death which arise from drunk drivers.
There is need to change the existing laws to more strict laws so as to save the lives of individual innocents and drivers who may be victims of the same in the near future. The audience of the article consists of researchers who may have little knowledge on the laws that can be used to control horrific deaths caused by driving under the influence of alcohol and have interest to research on the chooses topic since the victims and the offenders of the laws include the driving under influence occurrences. The article will therefore try to explore the incidences of driving under influences, the effect of the change of laws and the possible outcomes, and the changes to be encountered in the changing of the existing laws.
From the observations made above, it can be seen that, ‘the impact of the current driving under influence will be reduced if only the laws under driving are changed.’ Driving under influence is the operation of the motor vehicle after consumption of alcohol. According to the current statistics on the cases of driving under the influence as shown a typical problems that need to be addressed in an immediate effect. (Lillsunde et al 2006). In California for instance, around 1300 deaths reported in 2000 related to driving under influence cases. On the same line, 2015, it was reported that almost 2 million of the arrests per month were related to drivingunder the influence leading to 30% of traffic related deaths.
According to the survey that was conducted in 2013 nationwide on the use of drugs and health, it was found that around 9.9 million people from 12 years reported to be driving under the influence of drugs in the prior of the survey. The national highways traffic on the administration safety on the national roadside survey on the other hand, more than 18% of the weekend, and nighttime drivers test positive for takingillegalprescriptionsthat is the use of illegal drugs. The survey also came into a conclusion that, the men are more likely to be victims of driving under the influence of drugs or the alcohol when compared to women. Similarly the young adults ranging 18 to 25 years are more likely to drive under the influence of drugs like the alcohol and any other related drugs when compared to the adults.
According to the research by the ministry of transport and survey worldwide, also came into a conclusion that marijuana is the leadingdrug that is associated with the drunkarddrivinganddrinking after alcohol which is the leading. This is better to understand on why marijuana is trending and is dangerous to the driving. The high producing element of marijuana that is the THC, affects the brain areas that are responsible for body movements, memory, coordination, balance and judgment. According to the evidence that was presented by the surveyors, it was found that marijuana affects negatively the attentiveness of the driver, time and speed perceptions and the ability of drawing the information aimed form the last experiences.
The research also has indicated that, impairments increases significantly when the use of marijuana is mixed with alcohol use. According to Cohen (2008), it was found that, many drivers test positive for the alcohol and marijuana proving that drunkard driving and drinking are linked to behaviors. Driving under influence can also be referred to as the driving while intoxicated, drunk driving and the impaired crimes by the alcohol drugs that include the prescribed drugs by the physicians. The consequences of driving while drunk have reached far and they impact both the drugs and many others. The topic changing of the laws of driving under the influence has encountered unrest debate across the world.
The existence of the laws that discouragesdriving under the influence of drugs and the behaviors which are associated with the drugs might have little or no effect to the perpetrators even though, the enforcement of the laws may push the sculpts to consider their actions. There are alsoarguments that changing the laws will entirely contribute to the reduction of drivingfatalities. The debate has led the countries to have the same driving laws worldwide by discouraging the use of the drugs while driving. Despite all the contribution and arguments however, it is evident that the existing laws are very lenient which contributes to the major causes of fatalities through drivingunder the influence. The incorporation of the laws like the introduction of the machines which detects the drivers who have consumed drugsduring or before driving under the influence, will lead to the reduction of the use of alcohol and marijuana while driving.
The proposed changes will relay safety and reduction of driving under the influence if put into a serious considerations. Solution to the problems arising from driving under influence Since driving under the influence is associated with the use of the drugs, it is therefore necessary if three of the followingchanges are made so as to increase safety in our roads. The best option is to look for the ways to reduce and clears drunk drivers from the roads. The best approach of reducing the number of drunk drivers on the roads is the establishments of the ignition interlock device policies for the first time offenders. The device will be installed in the ignition system of the cars that requires the driver to provide the sample of breath so as to start the car and if alcohol is detected, the device will prevent the car from running.
Another solution to reduction of driving under the influence of the drug is the introduction of the ride sharing apps like the sidecar, the Lyft and the Uber. The devices will allow the users to request a ride with their smartphones and the system then sends closest driver available to pick the rider up and also help the driver to take the possible shortest route to get to the destination of the rider. This will also reduce the cases of aft6ality led by excess or consumption of drugs. DeJong, &Hingson, (2008) argues that, there is need to change attitudes towards drunk driving influence to be a problem. This is because, the more we think on the new approaches to the problem of the impaired it leads one to be able to know what is safe and what is dangerous than ever before.
The hangover can impair driving as much as drinking had caused it and taking a single drink can increase significantly the driver distraction effect that impairs the concentration on the text message or the dashboards notifications much which could lead the driver to run offload. Advantages of the proposed solutions The solutions proposed above will actually lead to reduction of fatal related to driving under the influence. The advantages of every proposed solution include the following: Establishment of ignition interlock device Despite the perception tomany that the improvisation of the ignition interlock devices are costly and hassle, the installation of the device in the vehicle is actually beneficial in that, it leads to reduction of the recidivism rates.
On the same note, the installation of the device will help the legal status of drivingto be maintained the act which will help in the reduction of fatalities. Consequently, the installation of the device is very affordable when compared with the type of punishment you may receive if found guilty on the use of drugsduringdriving. The advantages of the installation of the device are many and cannot be underrated. Similarly, the use of the device will help in the prediction of the repeat or the driven offences which makes you alert so as to keep the driving law thereby reducing incidences. By this the device benefits the DWI offenders and the loved ones of the offenders by spending less on fines since the device acts as the reminder to the offenders to maintain their responsibilities and also a reminder in the impacting of the safe driving. Generally the installation of the device leads to saving of the lives of many since the incidences will be reduced and safe driving impacted. Use of the ride sharing apps Despite ridesharing app seen as the tax company by many of the people, it has many notable advantages which real promote the reduction of accidents in our roads. The major advantage of the use of the ride sharing apps is that the downloading the perspective app provide you own a smartphone is very cheap hence it does not require much expenses compared to the tax and it helps in getting the price quotes ahead . Another advantage of the ridesharing apps is that they do not need one to move around looking for the apps but they are just downloaded by the ind9vidual user by the use of the smartphone at any place and any time increasing its convenient in using.
The use of the ridesharing apps is very easy and there is no training required for one to operate the apps. Change of attitudes towards driving under influence Since attitude drives personality of an individual, it is therefore important to change the attitudes towards driving under influence. (Cohen et al 2008). The advantage of the attitudes change towards driving under influence is that the behavior of a person is shaped and driving laws and rules will be followed without any destruction. On the same note, change of drivingattitudeswill lead to reduction of the use of the drugs while driving thereby enhancing safety in our roads. The family responsibilities will be restored since changing the attitudes will make one to think effectively without any obstructions which may make one to out of the mind.
According to research by Beitel et al (2010), it has been found that holdingattitudes that driving under the influence is the best way to drive safe, leads one to be always stressed duringdriving looseconcentration on the roads signs thereby ending to causingunnecessary accidents. The change of the attitudes therefore, will help in the reformation of the drivers and help them be careful while driving and in turn help in the reduction of fatal cases which has taken the lives of many. Taking the changes into considerations will really help in the reduction of problems associated with driving under influence. The overall advantages of the implementation of the laws will be added advantage to the country band the world at large since the cases of influenced driving will be reduced as fade as the time goes by.
It is therefore important for the government to take an immediate action to reinforce the laws and encourage the implementations so as to record zero crimes related to driving under influence. Getting devoted over the same, the drunk drivers will be pushed out of the roads and the new driver with the intention of using drugs to drive will have been cautioned over the use of drugs thereby reducing fatality cases caused by driving under the influence.
