Walgreens 2 Poojan Patel National Louis University CSS205 (Phase 3) Walgreens operates second-largest pharmacy store chain in the United States and uses Intercom Plus operating system. It relies on VSAT satellite access, which enables it link, over 8,000 Walgreens retail, mail service, and specialty pharmacies. Upon using the satellite the company made largest private use satellite transmission data in the world making it the second after the U.S government. The operating system is made to automate store-to store prescriptions making it available to any customer anywhere in the world (Pointers/Tips on Understanding Walgreens' Intercom Plus Computer System. (n.d.)) Intercom plus helps Walgreen refill prescription and provide pharmacist access to patient records anywhere globally. Provides platform for communication. It helps manage store inventory. The software is suitable for any system sizes and operate on Linux (64 bit) virtualized platfkorms). It operates on flexible licensing options and provides up to 25,000 subscribers. It requires IPv4 for IoIP® and IPv4 and IPv6 for SIP clients/trunk connections. Networkable in all IP intercom servers via LAN or WAN and provides support for all commend solution Apps. Walgreen Company operates on a huge platform with plenty of users. It thus means for effective operations it requires a strong server to support its functionality and avoid any system crashes. Intercom plus server is designed as a powerful all-in-one intercom appliance. The company could adopt a new S6 series that brings into regular rooms server rooms, which used to be limited IT environments. The server provides spectrum of powerful virtuoSIS technology, which is presented in compact all-in-one hardware and software package. The new S6 series server comes with all the required connections to support the company’s operations. There is no need for the company to establish proper infrastructures for it to operate in that it comes fully equipped and is driven by strong software that ensure maximum benefits of ViruoSIS technology which include high level fail safety, clarity in voice and video communication, easy maintenance and upgrading at low cost (Russel & Cohen, 2020). The software is best to ensure efficiency in a section where services need to be real time, exact and the processed in a timely manner. The major reason for recommending this type of software and server is that it is fully compatible with the previous system generations. The company does not have to invest plenty of money in adopting or upgrading it. The new S6 series server provides a powerful and flexible link in between generations (past and present) communications and does not require to halt its process while trying to improve it. The technology provides high performance intercom server for rack mounting. It allows for smooth communication solutions with exiting IT infrastructure, provide full range of VirtuoSIS function and provides an optimized rack installation (Walgreens, 2020) References Pointers/Tips on Understanding Walgreens' Intercom Plus Computer System. The operating system that the Walgreen pharmacy uses is Intercom Plus.Intercom plus was founded as Intercom in 1981, and was the first large scale retail pharmacy computer system. It relies on VSAT satellite access and/or broadband connections to link the over 8,000 Walgreens retail, mail service, and specialty pharmacies. Since they started using this system, Intercom made Walgreens the largest private user of satellite transmission data in the world, second only to the U.S. Government . The way this operating system is designed is it automates the store-to-store prescription filling and has prescription refills available at any location convenient for the customer. The use of Intercom plus not only helps Walgreens to refill prescription but also gives access to the pharmacist to look up patient records from any location nation wide. Walgreens Intercom Plus system is not only a means of communication between pharmacies, but is also a Team RX or pharmacy software. The IntercomPlus software is a highly advanced, learning style software which allows the staff of the store to focus on the care of the patient rather than on "the logistics" of the pharmacy. The reason why I think Intercom Plus is an appropriate choice is because not only It is a number one largest private user of satellite transmission data in the world leaving the U.S government behind but it also helps managing the stores inventory (verify counts of items and also used as proprietary software for receiving and distribution within Walgreens.) I believe they use computer software to do the supply chain and also must be using a POS system. As of August 31, 2019, Walgreens operates approximately 9,277 drugstores with a presence in all 50 states and their main headquarters is located in Deerfield Illinois.
