Developing a personal leadership philosophy is vital for guiding one's actions and fostering a positive impact within organizations and communities. This paper explores my own leadership philosophy, supported by scholarly research, self-assessment results, and a strategic development plan for enhancing key leadership behaviors.
Core Values
At the foundation of my leadership philosophy are core values centered around integrity, compassion, accountability, and continuous learning. Integrity ensures honest communication and ethical decision-making; compassion fosters empathy and understanding toward team members and stakeholders; accountability emphasizes responsibility for actions and outcomes; and a commitment to continuous learning drives me to seek improvement and adapt in a dynamic environment. Relator reflects my tendency to build meaningful relationships based on trust and loyalty, which supports collaborative leadership. The Achiever trait signifies my high drive for excellence and persistence in accomplishing goals. These strengths collectively shape my leadership style, emphasizing strategic planning, relationship-building, and goal-oriented actions, consistent with transformational and servant leadership models (Broome & Marshall, 2021).
Two Key Behaviors for Improvement
Despite my strengths, I recognize the need to bolster two key behaviors: enhancing emotional intelligence and practicing more active listening. Improving emotional intelligence will allow me to better understand and manage my own emotions and empathize with others, fostering a more emotionally supportive environment. Strengthening active listening skills will improve communication, reduce misunderstandings, and enhance team cohesion.
Development Plan
