The strategic role of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) has evolved significantly over the past decades. Historically viewed as a technical administrator, the CIO is now increasingly recognized as a strategic partner integral to organizational success. To achieve this, CIOs must foster alignment between IT and business objectives, ensuring technology initiatives directly support the enterprise’s overarching goals. An article by Luftman and Brier (1999) emphasizes that effective strategic alignment requires ongoing communication, shared understanding, and collaborative planning between CIOs and executive leadership. The authors argue that alignment is not a one-time event but a continuous process that involves translating business strategies into IT initiatives and vice versa.
