Among these, transformational leadership stands out as a compelling approach that emphasizes inspiring and motivating followers to exceed expectations through vision, enthusiasm, and personal example. Understanding Transformational Leadership
Transformational leadership, as conceptualized by Bernard Bass (1985), involves leaders who inspire followers by creating a compelling vision, fostering innovation, and encouraging personal development. Such leaders communicate high expectations, serve as role models, and possess charisma that energizes others. This style contrasts with transactional leadership, which focuses more on exchanges and established routines (Burns, 1978). Transformational leadership relies heavily on emotional connections, moral example, and the capacity to elevate followers' aspirations (Northouse, 2018).
Personal Example of Effective Leadership
In my professional experience as a team project coordinator, I employed transformational leadership principles to guide my team through a complex environmental research project. I articulated a clear vision emphasizing the importance of our work for community health, which resonated deeply with team members.
