Students will write a paper focused on the human side of management and leadership using information from the course material, plus any supplemental material provided to you or from your own research. This paper requires student to reflect on the various topics covered in chapters 6-8 and then select three aspects of the human side of management and leadership and write about what is valuable to you, not to employees or other stakeholders within an organization. In writing this short paper, students are expected to explain why each aspect is valued and why. In explaining why, students must support their reasoning using the course material.

Students need to avoid taking articles and writing the paper around the article. Course material and articles contain information that will help students support their reasoning and it the reflection of the material that will provide the basis for the paper. By completing this assignment, students will meet the outcome(s): identify the critical business functions and how they interact in order to position the organization to be effective in the current business environment explain the importance of the integration of individuals and systems to organizational effectiveness describe the ethical and social responsibilities that confront a business

Use APA formatting for in-text citations and a reference page. You are expected to paraphrase and not use quotes. The human side of management and leadership encompasses various attributes and behaviors that directly influence organizational effectiveness and individual satisfaction within a workplace. Reflecting on chapters 6-8 of the course, I have identified three aspects that resonate with me personally and professionally: emotional intelligence, ethical leadership, and effective communication. I value these aspects because they foster a positive work environment, promote trust, and enhance collaborative efforts, which are essential for sustained organizational success.

Firstly, I strongly believe in the importance of emotional intelligence (EI) in management. As outlined in the course material, EI involves self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills (Goleman, 1995). Valuing EI stems from its ability to help leaders understand and manage their own emotions while recognizing and respecting the emotions of others. This capability enables managers to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics, reduce conflicts, and build stronger relationships within teams. In my experience, leaders who exhibit high EI tend to create an inclusive and supportive environment, which boosts morale and productivity. Supporting this perspective, research indicates that emotional intelligence is linked to improved leadership effectiveness and employee engagement (Mayer, Caruso, & Salovey, 2016).

Secondly, ethical leadership is fundamental to my VALUES because it establishes a foundation of trust and integrity within organizations. The course emphasizes that ethical behavior guides decision-making, influences organizational culture, and impacts stakeholder perceptions (Brown & Treviño, 2006). Leaders who demonstrate ethical standards foster a sense of fairness and accountability, which motivates employees to align their actions with organizational values. I personally value ethical leadership because it promotes long-term sustainability and social responsibility, aligning with my belief that organizations should contribute positively to society. Empirical studies have shown that ethical leadership correlates with increased employee commitment and reduced misconduct (Trevino, Hartman, & Brown, 2000).

Thirdly, effective communication is a vital human side aspect that enhances understanding and cooperation. The course underscores that open, honest, and transparent communication facilitates clarity, reduces misunderstandings, and builds trust between managers and employees (Clampitt, 2016). I value this aspect because clear communication fosters a collaborative atmosphere where ideas can be shared freely, feedback is welcomed, and conflicts are resolved constructively. My personal experience and coursework support that organizations with strong communication practices outperform those with poor communication, as they adapt more quickly to change and innovation (Tourish & Robson, 2006). Consequently, I prioritize developing communication skills to ensure mutual understanding and foster team cohesion.

In conclusion, emotional intelligence, ethical leadership, and effective communication are critical human side attributes I highly value in management and leadership. These aspects contribute to creating a positive, trustworthy, and collaborative work environment that ultimately enhances organizational effectiveness and sustainability. Applying insights from the course, I recognize that developing these qualities is essential not only for personal growth but also for inspiring others to achieve shared goals ethically and harmoniously.
