The Big Five, as outlined in Chapter 3 of the webtext, include openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (Strayer, 2020). These traits influence how individuals perceive themselves and others, predict behavior, and facilitate understanding of diverse personality types. Consequently, awareness of these traits helps individuals better interpret social cues, manage relationships, and adapt their behaviors in various contexts, which is essential for emotional regulation and decision-making. Recognizing one's own personality traits and those of others allows for more empathetic and strategic interactions, fostering healthier and more productive social environments.

In the case of Lakiesha, the most fitting Big Five trait that characterizes her is extraversion. Based on the scenario, Lakiesha appears outgoing, assertive, and socially confident, which are hallmark features of extraversion (Strayer, 2020). This trait explains her tendency to engage actively in conversations and her ease in expressing herself in social settings. Understanding her extraverted nature helps in addressing interpersonal dynamics, as it suggests that she thrives on social interaction and may become disengaged or restless if isolated or ignored. Recognizing this trait can guide Gloria to approach her in a manner that leverages Lakiesha's social strengths, facilitating more effective communication and collaboration. Although I have not encountered a conflict identical to Gloria’s situation, I feel reasonably confident in my ability to resolve workplace conflicts based on my prior experiences and the knowledge I have gained. During internships, I encountered disagreements that required tact and active listening to reach mutually agreeable solutions. To effectively handle workplace conflicts, I emphasize open communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills learned through both education and experience. I recognize that conflicts often stem from misunderstandings or differences in personality, and addressing these through calm dialogue facilitates resolution. My confidence is also reinforced by conflict resolution theories, such as Thomas-Kilmann’s conflict styles, which advocate for collaboration and compromise (Thomas & Kilmann, 1974). These experiences and principles have strengthened my belief that I can navigate workplace disputes successfully, provided I approach conflicts with patience, empathy, and strategic communication.
