Look up scholarly articles from one of the databases in the GCU library about your selected social issue. You are looking for a gap in services provided and a project/program solution (your proposal) that will fill the gap. Complete each section by answering the prompts. Part 1: Gathering Resources

Use the GCU library to find scholarly sources relevant to your social issue. For each source, provide the following:

  • APA 6th Edition Reference and Citation
  • Permalink (GCU Library permanent link)
  • Research Design used in the article (40-50 words)
  • Study Setting description (40-50 words)
  • Relevance of the source to your paper's topic (40-50 words)
  • Reliability assessment (40-50 words)
  • Support for your research question and major themes of findings (40-50 words)
  • Gaps in services identified and how your proposal will address or complement these gaps (50-75 words)

Part 2: Literature Review

Description of the Social Issue

Describe the social issue you have selected for your capstone proposal in 50 words.

Assumptions and Theoretical Framework

Identify the assumptions underlying your work, noting which are research-verifiable and which are speculative. Consider an existing theory that explains your social issue, based on causes, correlations, and solutions. Explain this theory to another scholar, using chapter four in the textbook to classify the theory (words).

Research Gathering

Using your selected theory, review your collected research: Is there a current strategy, community program, agency, or grant addressing this issue? Is it evidence-based and what theory underpins it? If not, describe a potential evidence-based approach that could address your social issue.

Literature Review Findings

Summarize what existing research indicates about your topic. How have other social researchers approached the issue? Focus on identifying gaps in services and proposing a program or project to address these gaps.

Theory-Based Question

Formulate a theory-based research question using Table 4.3 as guidance. Explain how your question is derived from theories or existing programs (50 words). Assess whether the question is specific, answerable with evidence, and relevant to your field of study (50 words each). Address whether the question passes the “so what” test (50 words).

Hypothesis and Concepts

Based on your research, develop a hypothesis. Identify core concepts in your theory using Table 4.4, explain their importance, and propose how to gather data (surveys, interviews, observations) to support your theory.

This assignment synthesizes research gathering and critical analysis to frame a social issue within a theoretical context, guiding potential program development and addressing service gaps through evidence-based strategies.
