Engaging in a comprehensive critical reflection on the development of essential leadership competencies has been an illuminating journey. When I revisited the 12 core competencies alongside my Week 2 Leadership Lever self-assessment, I gained valuable insights into my leadership strengths and areas requiring improvement. Among my strengths, I identified effective communication and team collaboration as standout qualities, which align with competencies such as interpersonal skills and teamwork. These strengths have allowed me to foster positive relationships and facilitate open dialogue, essential for effective leadership. However, I also recognized that strategic thinking and decision-making are areas where I need significant development. The self-assessment revealed my tendency to seek additional information before making choices, which sometimes delays action, indicating a need to balance analysis with decisiveness.

What surprised me most was the extent to which my emotional intelligence influences my leadership style. While I am empathetic and attentive to team members' needs, I realized that managing my own emotions in high-pressure situations requires further improvement. I found myself feeling anxious about upcoming leadership responsibilities, particularly around asserting authority without undermining collaboration. This anxiety has motivated me to pursue growth in self-confidence and assertiveness through targeted activities and reflective practices. Conversely, I was excited to discover that my ability to motivate others and foster a shared vision positively impacts team dynamics, which I plan to leverage in my practicum activities. To address my developmental areas, I intend to engage in deliberate practice, seek mentorship, and participate in workshops focused on decision-making and emotional regulation.

Throughout this reflective process, I integrated these insights into my Practicum Plan by selecting activities aimed at strengthening my decision-making capabilities and emotional intelligence. I recognize the importance of utilizing diverse resources, such as leadership literature, online courses, and peer feedback sessions, to enhance my learning journey. As I progress in the program, I plan to continuously monitor my growth through self-assessment and reflective journaling, ensuring an ongoing alignment of my development efforts with the core competencies. Ultimately, this reflection has strengthened my awareness of my leadership potential and the concrete steps necessary to cultivate my skills further, positioning me for more impactful leadership in future roles.
