Summaries Of Quantitative And Qualitative Studies
Summaries Of Quantitative And Qualitative Studies
This week, you will submit summaries of quantitative and qualitative studies. The purpose of this assignment is to become familiar with published research, research designs, and methodologies. For the assignment, you will select one quantitative research study and one qualitative study related to the field of nursing and write a summary of each study. Each summary must be accurate, succinct, and clear. These articles should be somewhat related to your PICOT questions.
Ensure the following questions are addressed in each summary: 1. What type of research is it (quantitative, qualitative, and design)? 2. What was the research question(s) or hypothesis? 3. What is the sample, the sample size, and sample attributes? 4. What was the setting of the study? 5. What were the researcher’s findings? (Identify one.) You must submit the research study articles along with your summaries. Each summary should be between 150–250 words. Use current APA format to style your paper and to cite your sources. Review the rubric for further information on how your assignment will be graded. Due Sunday, 11:59 p.m. (Pacific time) Points 150
Paper For Above instruction
In this assignment, I selected one quantitative and one qualitative research study related to nursing that aligned with my PICOT questions. The goal was to analyze these studies to understand their research designs, methodologies, and findings, thus deepening my comprehension of current nursing research.
Quantitative Study Summary
The selected study is a quantitative research article utilizing a descriptive cross-sectional design. Its primary research question was, “Does nurse-led education improve patients’ adherence to medication in chronic illness management?” The hypothesis posited that structured nurse-led education would lead to higher medication adherence among patients. The sample consisted of 200 adult patients diagnosed with hypertension, recruited from outpatient clinics in a metropolitan hospital. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, with inclusion criteria including diagnosis for more than six months and being on prescribed medication. The setting was urban outpatient clinics, providing a real-world context for data collection. The researchers found a significant correlation between nurse-led educational interventions and improved medication adherence, with adherence rates increasing by 25% in the intervention group compared to the control group. This suggests that nurse-led education can positively influence patient compliance and health outcomes.
Qualitative Study Summary
The qualitative study employed a phenomenological design to explore nurses’ experiences with caring for terminally ill patients. The research question aimed to understand the personal and professional challenges faced by nurses in end-of-life care. The sample included 15 registered nurses working in hospice settings, selected through purposive sampling to ensure participants had direct experience with terminal patient care. The setting was specialized hospice wards within hospitals. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews, and thematic analysis was used to identify core themes. The researchers found that nurses experienced emotional stress and moral dilemmas but also reported a sense of personal growth and fulfillment in providing compassionate care. One key finding was that emotional resilience and institutional support played pivotal roles in nurses’ ability to cope with end-of-life situations. This study underscores the importance of addressing nurses’ emotional health and providing adequate support to enhance patient care and nurse well-being.
