The RN to BSN program at Grand Canyon University meets the requirements for clinical competencies as defined by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), using nontraditional experiences for practicing nurses. These experiences come in the form of direct and indirect care experiences in which licensed nursing students engage in learning within the context of their hospital organization, specific care discipline, and local communities.

Paper For Above instruction
The significance of effective communication in nursing cannot be overstated, especially when it involves therapeutic engagement with patients. As future nurses, understanding and applying strategies to communicate therapeutically is fundamental to enhancing patient outcomes and fostering trust. This paper outlines a comprehensive community teaching plan focused on improving therapeutic communication skills within a specific health promotion context, adhering to guidelines provided and incorporating clinical competencies as part of the RN to BSN program at Grand Canyon University.
The primary objective of this teaching plan is to educate community health providers and residents on the importance of therapeutic communication in healthcare settings. Such communication techniques are integral to achieving positive health behaviors, reducing health disparities, and promoting patient-centered care. The focus chosen for this plan is community health education aimed at primary prevention and health promotion through effective communication strategies.
To develop this plan, initial steps involve selecting a target population, which will be vulnerable elders in the local community, known for often experiencing communication barriers due to age-related cognitive and sensory impairments. Leveraging the "Community Teaching Work Plan Proposal" resource, I structured the plan to include specific learning objectives, relevant educational content, and appropriate instructional methods tailored to this population. The goals include enhancing understanding of therapeutic communication techniques, such as active listening, empathetic response, and clear verbal and non-verbal cues, tailored to the needs of older adults.
The next phase involved collaborating with local community health providers and public health officials to review the plan and gather constructive feedback. This review process is essential in identifying strengths and areas for improvement, such as ensuring cultural sensitivity and flexibility in delivery methods. After receiving feedback, I refined the plan, emphasizing interactive activities like role-playing, visual aids, and scenario-based discussions to facilitate skill acquisition.
Preparation for implementation includes designing educational materials, including pamphlets and visual aids, and scheduling sessions within community centers accessible to the target population. To ensure the plan's effectiveness, I will also develop evaluation tools like pre- and post-assessment questionnaires to measure participants' understanding and confidence in applying therapeutic communication strategies.
This community teaching plan aligns with the competencies required by CCNE and AACN, aiming to improve practical communication skills that directly influence patient safety, satisfaction, and health outcomes. By engaging community health providers and residents in this educational effort, the plan fosters a collaborative approach to health promotion, emphasizing patient-centered communication as a vital aspect of therapeutic care.
In conclusion, this project highlights the importance of strategic planning, community engagement, and continuous feedback in executing an effective community health education initiative. The integration of clinical competencies, adherence to APA style, and alignment with program objectives ensure that this teaching plan is not only educational but also applicable and sustainable within the community setting.
