Reflection on Why I Want to Enter the STEM Field
For this reflective journal, I spent 60 minutes contemplating my reasons for pursuing a career in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field. This exercise was an opportunity to connect with my deeper motivations and remind myself of my purpose. My thoughts ranged from my fascination with innovation to my desire to solve complex problems that impact society positively.
Growing up, I was always curious about how things worked, whether it was taking apart gadgets or asking questions about technology. This curiosity evolved into a passion for science and technology, fueled by my experiences in school and exposure to the digital world. I naturally gravitated toward subjects like mathematics and computer science, which offered tangible ways to create and improve.
I also see STEM as a pathway to making meaningful contributions to society. The idea of developing new technologies that can improve people's lives excites me. I am passionate about using my skills to address real-world issues, such as climate change, health care, and accessibility.
Furthermore, I am motivated by the innovative environment that STEM fields offer. Working at companies like Google, Microsoft, or even larger corporations such as Walmart or General Motors would allow me to be part of transformative projects. These organizations are leading forces in technological advancements and innovation, which inspires me to contribute to their missions.
Another factor driving my interest is the continuous learning and growth that STEM careers promise. The rapidly evolving nature of technology means that I will always have opportunities to learn new skills, adapt, and stay at the forefront of development. This dynamic environment keeps me motivated and excited about my future.
My desire to pursue STEM is also tied to my personal values of curiosity, creativity, and perseverance. I believe that these values align well with the demands and culture of the STEM community, where problem-solving and resilience are essential.
