My experience with a recent IT system upgrade project offers valuable insights into the effectiveness of the change management process and lessons learned that can be applied to future projects. This paper describes the change management strategy employed, evaluates its effectiveness, and reflects on three key lessons learned, highlighting how I plan to incorporate these lessons in future endeavors.

In the project I was involved with, the change management process was structured around a formal Change Control Board (CCB) that reviewed and approved all proposed modifications. The process began with submitting change requests through a standardized form that detailed the nature of the change, its rationale, implications, and impact on scope, schedule, and cost. Each request was analyzed by project stakeholders to assess feasibility and risks. Approved changes were documented, communicated to all team members, and incorporated into the project plan with updates to related documentation and schedules.
The process also included provisions for controlling scope creep by enforcing a strict review and approval mechanism for any deltas from the original scope.
