Section 1: Marketing Plan and Sales Strategy
In MS Word, write the 3–5 page marketing plan and sales strategy section of your business plan, in which you:
- Revise the company’s target market based on the feedback received in the Week 3 discussion thread. Be sure to include demographic, geographic, lifestyle, psychographic, purchasing patterns, and buying sensitivities in the target market description.
- Assess your chosen company’s market competition. Use the factors listed in the graphic in your textbook labeled “Assess the Competition” (page 125), to evaluate the company's competitors. Specify the exact company and particular product or service you are competing against. For example, if you create a snack food company, specify whether you're competing against a specific snack product or a larger corporation like Coca Cola’s fruit juice versus its cola products.
- Detail your plan to differentiate your company from the competition. Outline the company's value proposition and create a marketing slogan/tagline for the product. The value proposition explains why customers should do business with you. Knowing your marketing message will guide your choice of marketing vehicles.
- Specify the marketing vehicles you will use to build your company's brand and justify why they will be effective. Examples include social media, sponsored events, trade shows, sampling, etc. If planning online marketing tactics, consult the “Online Marketing Tactics” worksheet on page 177 of your textbook for guidance.
Format your assignment according to Strayer Writing Standards (SWS): double-spaced, Times New Roman size 12 font, one-inch margins, with headings for each major topic. Include a cover page (title, your name, professor’s name, course title, date). Also include a source list page with all sources cited properly in SWS format. There is no minimum number of sources required.
Section 2: Marketing Budget
Develop a marketing budget supporting your marketing plan and sales goals. Use the Business Plan Financials Excel Template, specifically the Setup and Marketing Budget worksheets. Complete the setup worksheet for your selected company following guidelines, and then prepare the marketing budget worksheet for your company's first two years. Reflect only the marketing vehicles you plan to use; leave costs at zero for those not planned.
Ensure all marketing activities, including social media efforts, are accounted for with associated costs. Even if a platform is free to use, manage resources and paid advertising must be considered in your budget. The total budget should reflect realistic costs aligned with your marketing plan and projected sales goals.
In summary, this assignment helps you create a comprehensive marketing plan that identifies your target market, assesses competitors, establishes your unique message, chooses marketing vehicles, and allocates a budget. Successfully completing this work will demonstrate your ability to integrate strategic marketing components into a coherent business plan, critical for reaching $1 million sales within two years.
