Throughout this course, I have experienced significant growth in my research and academic skills, which I did not anticipate at the beginning of the term. One of the most valuable lessons I learned was how to effectively evaluate credible sources and distinguish them from unreliable ones. Prior to this class, I often relied on general internet searches without scrutinizing the authority or accuracy of the information. Now, I understand the importance of using scholarly articles and reputable databases to support my research. This skill will undoubtedly be beneficial in my future coursework and as a nurse, where evidence-based practice is crucial.
Additionally, I learned how to construct a well-organized research paper, including clear thesis statements, coherent paragraphs, and proper citations. This process has transformed my approach to assignments, making me more systematic and confident in starting and completing research projects. Before taking this class, I might have begun a paper by brainstorming ideas and then jumping into writing, often resulting in a disorganized draft. Now, I start with thorough research, outline my key points, and then develop my paper methodically.
Moving forward, I believe I will approach future paper assignments with greater confidence and organization. I have also realized the importance of time management and breaking down projects into manageable steps. One aspect that I feel could be expanded is instruction on incorporating multimedia elements into papers, such as graphs or videos, to enhance presentations. Furthermore, adding topics about advanced citation methods, such as using citation management tools, could be beneficial. Overall, this course has strengthened my research skills and prepared me to excel in my academic journey and future nursing career.
