The journey into a health assessment course often evokes a myriad of feelings for an experienced nurse. Anticipation and curiosity are common, driven by the desire to refine skills and stay updated with emerging best practices. Reflecting on my own preparation, I have felt a mix of confidence and apprehension. Confidence stems from my extensive background in nursing, which has equipped me with foundational skills in patient interactions and physical assessments. However, I also recognize areas where I can improve—particularly in adopting newer techniques and integrating holistic assessment strategies that encompass psychosocial factors. My strengths lie in effective communication and thorough documentation of health histories, which facilitate accurate diagnosis and personalized care planning. Conversely, I sometimes overlook subtle cues during physical examinations, highlighting my weakness in clinicians’ keen observation of non-verbal signals. In this assessment course, I expect to deepen my understanding of systematic examination procedures, enhance observational skills, and learn to use advanced tools that augment physical assessment.
