For this assignment, I engaged with one of their self-guided learning workshops to deepen my understanding of social justice issues and reflect on my personal learning process.
Selection and Completion of the Workshop
I chose the workshop titled “Understanding Implicit Bias,” which aims to help participants recognize their unconscious biases and learn strategies to mitigate their impact in educational settings and beyond. The workshop structured the learning into several modules, including video presentations, reflective exercises, and actionable strategies. I dedicated approximately one hour to complete all components of the workshop, engaging thoughtfully with each activity and recording my responses to the reflection prompts provided.
During the workshop, I learned that implicit biases are automatic, unconscious attitudes or stereotypes that influence our judgments and behaviors. The platform emphasized that acknowledging these biases is a critical step toward creating more equitable environments. The exercises included recognizing personal biases through scenarios and analyzing how these biases can influence decision-making processes in day-to-day interactions. Reflections on the Experience
