This week, you will submit the second project, the Desktop Migration Proposal. Using the requirements analysis your manager provided and the Internet research you conducted, submit your recommendation to the assignment folder. As you are writing your recommendation, ensure your analysis and recommendations align with your manager’s priorities and concerns. You should carefully document any assumptions made (e.g., how you analyzed the requirement for upgrading monitors, peripherals devices, etc.). Refer to the HFA Desktop Migration: Corporate PC Refresh Documentation for the company’s needs (requirements).
Your justification should clearly indicate how you bridge the gap between the existing desktop specifications and the new machines you recommend. How will your work be evaluated? For this assignment, you are asked by your manager to research the replacement of 50 aging desktop machines with new laptops. Review the business needs from your manager carefully so that you fully appreciate the requirements you must address in selecting the new laptops. For example, what is significant about the need for "multiple external monitors"?
Ask yourself what it takes to connect a laptop to external monitors. What ports are included on your recommended laptop? What kind of cables are required? Can those ports/cables be used with the external monitors? Does the laptop have sufficient graphics capabilities to drive external displays and if so, how many and at what resolution?
Follow this same process for all the business needs. By documenting your choices and the overall recommendation in an effective background report, you are showing how you use your technical knowledge to convey your ideas to others in a professional setting. Your ability to express your findings using the right mix of technical detail in a business context is an important workplace skill. The following evaluation criteria aligned to the competencies will be used to grade your assignment: 1.1.3: Present ideas in a clear, logical order appropriate to the task. 1.2.3: Explain specialized terms or concepts to facilitate audience comprehension. 1.4.3: Write concise and logical sentences in standard academic English that clarify relationships among concepts and ideas. 2.1.2: Describe the context surrounding the issue or problem. 2.3.3: Explain inferences and deductions that follow logically from the evidence provided. 10.1.3: Define the specifications of required technologies. 13.1.1: Create documentation appropriate to the stakeholder. 13.2.1: Evaluate vendor recommendations in the context of organization requirements.
This project is a three- to four-page business-oriented proposal and should contain the following: at least one high-quality graphic, one or more tables to present information, at least one online configurator, your purchase recommendations, specifications, and justification for your choice, one to two IEEE references.

Introduction
The rapid pace of technological advancement necessitates regular hardware upgrades within organizations to maintain efficiency, security, and productivity. In this context, the proposal aims to replace 50 aging desktop computers with modern laptops tailored to meet the specific needs of the company, aligning with managerial priorities and operational requirements. This document presents a comprehensive analysis of the existing infrastructure, identifies critical business needs, evaluates suitable hardware options, and provides justified recommendations to facilitate an effective and seamless migration process.
Understanding Business Needs and Constraints
The primary business drivers for this migration include enhancing mobility, improving processing power, and supporting multiple external displays for multitasking and collaborative work. The existing desktops, being obsolete, limit productivity and pose security risks. Managers emphasized the importance of laptops that can seamlessly connect to peripherals, especially multiple external monitors, for a desktop-like experience. The need for efficient graphics capability, sufficient port options, and compatibility with existing peripherals are critical factors influencing the choice of new laptops.
Furthermore, considering the organization's security policies and organizational standards, all new devices should comply with cybersecurity guidelines, including encryption and remote management features. Budget constraints and vendor support also play vital roles in the decision-making process. Documenting these constraints and needs provides a clear framework for selecting suitable devices.
Technical Analysis of Laptop Requirements
Connecting a laptop to multiple external monitors requires specific port configurations. Common connections include HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C with DisplaySignal, or Thunderbolt ports. The recommended laptops should include at least two of these video output ports to support dual monitor setups effectively. For example, a laptop with two Thunderbolt 3 ports can connect to monitors via compatible adapters and cables, such as USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort.
In terms of cables, high-quality adapters might be necessary depending on the monitor inputs. Monitors typically support HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA, so the laptops' ports must be compatible. The ability to drive multiple external displays also depends on the graphics processing unit (GPU); integrated Intel Iris Xe or NVIDIA GeForce graphics are suitable for high-resolution displays, supporting at least dual monitors at 1920x1080 or higher resolutions.
Based on research, the selected laptop model should feature at least an Intel Core i7 processor, minimum 16GB RAM, SSD storage, and a dedicated GPU if high-resolution, multi-monitor setups are required. These specifications ensure sufficient performance for typical business operations and future scalability.
Vendor Evaluation and Recommendations
Using online configurators such as Dell's or HP's custom build tools, various configurations were analyzed to meet these specifications within budget. For instance, the Dell Latitude 5420 provides dual Thunderbolt 3 ports, robust security features, and a professional aesthetic suitable for corporate environments. It supports multiple external displays via adapters and has a graphics card capable of handling high-resolution monitors.
Vendor evaluations were conducted by comparing warranty options, support services, and compatibility with existing organizational infrastructure. After assessing these factors, the Dell Latitude 5420 emerges as the optimal choice due to its balance of performance, connectivity, security features, and cost-effectiveness.
Visual Data Presentation
A table summarizing the specifications of the recommended laptops, including processor, RAM, storage, ports, graphics, and price, provides clear comparative insights. Additionally, a high-quality graphic illustrating the port configuration and connection setup for multi-monitor display enhances understanding.
Justification of Recommendations
The selected laptop aligns with organizational needs by providing robust processing power, excellent connectivity options, and reliable support for multi-monitor setups. Its compatibility with existing peripherals minimizes additional costs. The hardware specifications meet the demands for multitasking, collaborative projects, and future growth. By addressing security and manageability features, the recommended device ensures compliance with organizational policies, facilitating a secure and efficient migration.
Conclusion
Replacing 50 desktops with appropriately selected laptops will significantly improve organizational mobility, productivity, and security. The comprehensive evaluation and justified selection process outlined in this proposal demonstrate a strategic approach aligned with business objectives and technical requirements. Implementing these recommendations will support the company's operational needs while also providing scalability for future technological developments.
