visit 1 or 2 museums earn 5 points per visit 5 points write up
Visit 1 or 2 museums (earn 5 points per visit + 5 points write-up = 10 points maximum). Visit the Museum of Tolerance, Bowers Museum, Pacific Asia Museum, the campus Anthropology Museum, or other museums with events/exhibits related to race and ethnicity any time during the quarter. If you are unsure whether a particular museum qualifies, please have it approved by the professor prior to your visit by posting a message in the Blackboard Museum forum. You may also visit a Church, Synagogue, Mandir, Buddhist Temple, or Mosque.
Ideas will be posted on Blackboard. Turn in a typed summary of your experience (approximately 1 page) and include documentation of your visit (e.g., your entrance receipt – keep a copy for your own records). Each visit and typed summary counts for 10 points. Museum summaries can be turned in any time throughout the quarter but the LAST day to turn in the summary is just prior to the start of our final exam period on December 2.
Paper For Above instruction
The assignment requires visiting one or two museums that focus on race and ethnicity, such as the Museum of Tolerance, Bowers Museum, Pacific Asia Museum, or other approved institutions including religious sites like churches or mosques. The purpose of the visit is to explore and understand cultural, racial, or ethnic representations through exhibits or events. The visit must be documented with tangible evidence such as a receipt, and accompanied by a typed summary of the experience, approximately one page in length.
Engagement with these museums provides an opportunity to deepen understanding of diverse cultural identities and the complexities of race and ethnicity in society. The Museum of Tolerance, for example, offers exhibits related to the history of discrimination, human rights, and social justice. The Pacific Asia Museum showcases art and artifacts from Asian cultures, highlighting their history and contemporary presence. Religious sites like mosques or temples further enrich understanding by providing insights into spiritual and cultural practices.
This assignment encourages reflection on personal reactions to exhibits, the insights gained about different cultures, and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. The process involves choosing relevant museums, gaining approval if necessary, visiting, and then writing a concise summary that captures key aspects of the experience. Submissions are flexible throughout the quarter, but the final opportunity to submit is just before the final exam period, ensuring all students have ample time to reflect and document their visits.
Engaging in this activity promotes cultural awareness, critical thinking, and empathy by encouraging exposure to diverse narratives and histories. It aligns well with broader educational goals of fostering intercultural understanding and social consciousness, essential in today’s globalized world.
