Week 2 Assignment: Setting the Stage for Success - Differentiated instruction doesn’t start with teaching; it starts with building relationships in a safe, positive classroom environment. You will create a differentiated classroom framework based on a design originally constructed to assist teachers in meeting the new Common Core State Standards in an inclusion classroom. This framework will be shared with other teachers in your Professional Learning Community (PLC), emphasizing a student-centered school vision rooted in differentiation.

Assignment Instructions: You will design a differentiated classroom environment plan that includes a physical layout along with pro-social strategies to encourage positive behaviors. The presentation can be delivered via Prezi or PowerPoint, a Voicethread with audio narration, a blog, or a Word document, with length determined by your chosen format. Each section below must be thoroughly addressed with minimum length requirements specified.

Paper For Above instruction

Demographics

Describe your current or fictional classroom, including grade level and subject area, total number of students, and their ability levels, gender distribution, presence of students with special needs, and English Language Learners (ELLs). Include other relevant information such as socioeconomic status, family backgrounds, and recurring behavior issues.

Classroom Environment

Discuss how you will apply foundational concepts of differentiated instruction to design your classroom’s physical layout tailored to your demographics. This section should include details about furniture arrangements—such as student desks, teacher’s desk, computers, reading corner, library, pets, and quiet zones—and architectural elements like immobile structures, doors, windows, bathroom access, sinks, bulletin boards, and chalk/whiteboards. Support your design with at least one scholarly, research-based article, and include a diagram, photos, or illustrations. Accompany this visual with a written or narrated explanation (three to four paragraphs or one to two minutes) describing why you chose this layout and how it relates to your class demographics.

Positive Behavior Environment

Describe strategies you will implement to foster positive behavior through proactive, differentiated approaches based on current research from the past five years. Include rules and routines that promote success, value individual differences, and ensure an emotionally safe environment. Clarify the specific behaviors expected, such as respect, listening, and problem solving. This section should include six slides (if using PowerPoint or Prezi), six paragraphs (if using a blog or Word document), or a three-minute narration (if using Voicethread). Support your strategies with your course text and at least two scholarly articles from the Ashford University Library or Google Scholar. Ensure all sources are properly cited in APA format at the end of your assignment.
