Immigration policy reform is a vital issue due to its extensive social, ethical, and economic implications, especially in a nation with a diverse and expanding population that relies heavily on skilled health professionals from abroad. Addressing immigration reform is essential not only for the well-being of immigrant health workers but also for the broader healthcare system's effectiveness and equity.
Social reasons for reform are rooted in the recognition that immigrant health professionals significantly contribute to addressing healthcare disparities. Many immigrant practitioners serve in underserved communities, providing crucial services where shortages of domestically trained providers exist (Miller et al., 2021). Facilitating more accessible pathways for immigration and licensure can enhance healthcare access for vulnerable populations by ensuring culturally competent care and reducing provider shortages.
