In this assignment, I am tasked with selecting three distinct topics for potential research and presenting my reasoning behind choosing each. For each topic, I must identify the intended audience and formulate a preliminary thesis statement that offers a clear direction for further research and writing. Moreover, I need to compile a list of six credible sources—two for each topic—that I anticipate using in my research, explicitly excluding sources like Wikipedia or non-academic websites to ensure the credibility and academic integrity of my work.

The first topic I have selected is "The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health." I chose this because of the increasing prevalence of social media platforms and ongoing debates concerning their effects on mental well-being, especially among teenagers and young adults. The intended audience includes mental health professionals, educators, and parents who are concerned about the psychological effects of digital engagement. My preliminary thesis is: "While social media offers opportunities for connection and community, its overuse and exposure to cyberbullying and unrealistic comparisons significantly contribute to adverse mental health outcomes among youth."
