These studies underscore the importance of fostering positive psychological resources alongside technical training to promote athletic achievement and long-term career sustainability (Pang et al., 2020; Lai et al., 2020).

Stress reduction techniques like progressive relaxation training (PRT) have also been shown to effectively reduce pre-competition anxiety and improve performance. Liang et al. (2021) evaluated PRT among college athletes, revealing significant decreases in pre-competition stress and enhanced athletic outcomes. Such interventions are particularly beneficial in high-pressure environments, helping athletes attain optimal mental states conducive to performance. The systematic reviews by Lochbaum et al. (2021) and Wang et al. (2023) confirm the broad applicability and effectiveness of diverse psychological strategies, advocating for their routine integration into athletic training programs.

Moreover, the role of coaches and their psychosocial functioning cannot be overlooked. Cook et al. (2021) highlighted how coaches’ emotional attributes, empathy, and social support influence athlete performance. Effective coaching entails not only technical expertise but also emotional intelligence and psychological support, which create a positive environment for athletes to develop resilience and confidence (Cook et al., 2021).
