Clear communication ensures that team members understand their roles, responsibilities, and the shared goals, reducing misunderstandings and errors (O’Daniel & Rosenstein, 2008). When communication is open and honest, it fosters trust and mutual respect, essential elements for effective teamwork. Conversely, poor communication can lead to conflicts, missed information, and ultimately, compromised patient care (Manojlovich et al., 2017). Therefore, establishing channels for regular, transparent dialogue enhances collaborative efforts among healthcare professionals.

As an employee, fostering a collaborative workplace involves active engagement and demonstrating openness to others’ ideas. This can include practicing active listening, offering constructive feedback, and showing willingness to assist colleagues. Recognizing and respecting diverse perspectives encourages a culture of mutual respect and shared responsibility (Salas et al., 2015). As a manager, promoting collaboration requires creating an environment where team members feel valued and empowered to contribute. One example of effective collaboration I experienced involved a multidisciplinary team managing a complex patient case.
