Despite the collaborative framework, there are opportunities to enhance team communication and role clarity, which could further improve patient outcomes. For example, fostering more structured interprofessional meetings or implementing shared decision-making protocols may enhance team cohesion and effectiveness.

Compassion involves nursing actions that demonstrate genuine care and concern for patients and team members. An interprofessional nursing action that fosters compassion is active listening during team huddles and bedside interactions, allowing team members to express concerns and patients to feel heard. This practice can nurture a culture of empathy, promote trust, and improve team morale, ultimately contributing to better patient experiences and health outcomes. Research indicates that compassionate communication correlates with reduced patient anxiety and enhanced recovery (Sinclair et al., 2016).

Advocacy in interprofessional teams entails representing and supporting patients’ rights and needs.
