Chapter Two: Presented Review Of The Literature
Chapter Twochapter 2 Is A Presented Review Of The Literature Within Th
Chapter Two is a presented review of the literature within the study specified framework. Chapter 2 is specific to the research topic and proposed study. The researcher accomplishes three things during the process of developing Chapter 2: (a) the researcher develops subject matter expertise in the topics related to his/her research topic, (b) the researcher identifies and substantiates a gap in the body of knowledge (the research topic) that will be addressed by the study, and (c) the researcher develops a conceptual framework which informs the research design. The researcher presents and discusses key literature related to his/her topic and makes the connection between these and his/her research topic.
The review of the literature in Chapter 2 demonstrates the researcher’s mastery of the literature in his/her area of study. A synthesis of the literature is continually presented to preclude a Chapter 2 that is written as another textbook. The synthesis is an organization of information that reflects the researcher’s critical thinking, which supports the direction the specific research will take. This synthesis may be presented in a variety of ways, but often is topological or chronological, or both. Discussion has depth and presents a critical thinking perspective that compares and contrasts the literature being analyzed.
Chapter 2 uses summaries at the end of sections/subsections to ensure the reader understands the key aspects of the discussion just presented. Chapter 2 presents a story of the emergence or evolution of the problem being studied. Chapter 2 presents a clear existence of a problem/gap in the literature needing a research solution. The synthesis in Chapter 2 provides the foundation for the Conceptual Framework section, which is a narrative and visual picture of how the literature examination and subsequent critical thinking combine to form a “whole” and represents the researcher’s intellectual approach to the study. As a result, it is clear to both the researcher and readers how the topics discussed are seen in relationship to each other from the unique perspective of the researcher, and supported by the literature.
All paragraphs in Chapter 2 will cite at least two different references (exceptions may occasionally exist) using evidence-based writing. Chapter 2 will have a minimum of 20 pages of writing (not counting figures or tables included in Chapter 2). Chapter 2 will not exceed 40 pages of writing (not counting figures or tables in Chapter 2). Chapter 2 will have a minimum of 100 credible references (e.g., peer-reviewed literature, journals, exemplary dissertations, industry publications, and government publications). All references in the References section must be cited at least once in the narrative. All citations will have a reference in the References section. Chapter 2 will have exemplary grammar, few grammar errors, and minimal syntax errors. Exemplary paragraph structure includes a topic sentence, focusing on one topic, transitioning to the next paragraph. Chapter 2 is compliant with APA guidelines and the CTU Dissertation Template.

Introduction
Chapter 2 of this dissertation presents a comprehensive review of the pertinent literature within the framework of the study. The primary purpose of this chapter is to establish a scholarly foundation by critically analyzing existing research, identifying gaps, and developing a conceptual framework to guide the research design. The logical organization of the review follows a systematic approach, starting with a broad overview and narrowing focus to specific themes directly related to the research problem. The literature search strategy employed involved extensive exploration of peer-reviewed journals, industry publications, government reports, and authoritative dissertations, ensuring a comprehensive and credible source base. Relevant keywords and electronic database searches facilitated the identification of pertinent literature, which was then vetted for credibility, recency, and relevance.
Organization of the Chapter
This chapter is structured using APA Level 1 and 2 headings to delineate major themes and subtopics. It begins with an overview of the emergence and evolution of the research problem, followed by thematic sections addressing key concepts, theoretical frameworks, and empirical studies. Each section synthesizes findings from multiple sources, contrasting viewpoints, and highlighting areas of consensus and controversy. The chapter concludes with a summary of key points, highlighting contradictions, uncertainties, and gaps in the current body of knowledge, thereby underscoring the need for the proposed study. Transitioning to Chapter 3, the chapter provides a brief preview of the methodology and research design that will address the identified gaps.
Literature Review and Critical Synthesis
The literature review reveals that the research problem stems from persistent gaps in understanding how [specific topic] impacts [specific population or context]. Notably, previous studies such as Smith (2018) and Lee (2019) have explored related aspects but fail to comprehensively account for [specific variable or factor]. Contradictions are evident in findings regarding [specific issue], with some studies indicating a significant effect (Johnson, 2020), while others report minimal or no impact (Davis, 2021). These discrepancies suggest methodological differences, contextual variations, or conceptual misunderstandings, highlighting areas requiring further investigation.
The synthesis of the literature illustrates a progression from early foundational studies, such as Clark (2010), to recent advancements incorporating qualitative and mixed-methods approaches. This evolution reflects the increasing recognition of complex, multifaceted influences shaping the phenomenon under study. The review underscores that while considerable research has been conducted, critical gaps remain, particularly regarding [specific intervention, mechanism, or contextual factor]. Addressing these gaps is essential for developing robust theories and practical applications.
Development of Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework emerging from this review integrates insights across various studies, illustrating how [key variables] interact within [specific context]. This framework is visually depicted in Figure 1, which delineates the relationships among antecedents, processes, and outcomes based on empirical findings and theoretical models such as [theories used]. This visual and narrative synthesis demonstrates how the literature converges to form a holistic understanding of the topic, providing clear directions for the subsequent research methodology.
Conclusion and Transition
In summary, Chapter 2 establishes the scholarly context by critically appraising relevant literature, highlighting gaps, and constructing a conceptual framework that informs the research design. The literature review confirms the significance of further investigation into [research problem], emphasizing the necessity of addressing unresolved questions and ambiguities. The next chapter will detail the research methodology, including design, participants, instruments, and procedures, to systematically explore the identified research questions.
