The assignment involves four parts:

  1. Part 1: Reflect on your career or future career, focusing on the one most relevant for the long-term. Write two pages on why this particular career or pursuit is your choice, emphasizing the "why" behind your goal to help motivate you and make your pursuit tangible. Understanding your motivation will be more impactful than just knowing the "how" of achieving your goal.
  2. Part 2: Make a list of at least five types of people who could assist you in your career. For each, specify the profession or position (e.g., accountant, marketing manager, attorney) without naming specific individuals. Explain why these contacts would be beneficial for you.
  3. Part 3: Identify at least three social media platforms that you could use to contact potential contacts relevant to your career goals. For each platform, describe why you would choose it and how you would use it to make connections.
  4. Part 4: Take actionable steps by reaching out through social media to three people you do not currently know. Describe who you contacted, why, and how you approached them professionally. Speculate on how these new contacts might be helpful in your career. If you do not currently use social media, interview someone who has used social media for networking, and write about how social media has helped them make connections.
