Discussion Posts Need To Besubstantive And Thoughtful That Is Discu

Discussion posts need to be substantive and thoughtful; that is, discussion posts must refer to a topic from the week's readings. All discussion posts must be supported by current journal article(s) found in the SFC Online Library Database system. Discussion posts should draw from the information found in this week’s course materials, from personal experience, and from credible sources (peer-reviewed journal articles and sites provided by your professor). All information gained, read, or acquired from any source that is not your personal experience must be cited throughout the document; otherwise, it constitutes plagiarism. All sources of information must be cited in the body of the document and in a full-reference list at the end, following APA style & format criteria.

APA style & format criteria: Peer-reviewed journal articles from the SFC Online Library Database System, published from January 2015 to the current month (2020). PDF available. Times New Roman, 12-point font. Black ink. Single-spaced work for discussion and response assignments only. In-text citations must appear throughout the work, and full-text references must be listed at the bottom. The discussion post should comprise three well-developed paragraphs with about 7-9 fully developed sentences each, adhering to APA style & format. If your professor or classmates ask follow-up questions, you are required to respond additionally to your main posts.

Failure to respond timely to follow-up questions by Sunday each week will result in a point deduction (1 point per unaddressed entry). The main discussion post is due by Day 3 (Wednesday of each week). To submit your assignment, click on “REPLY” from the main discussion post instructions.

Examples of topics to write about (choose only one, or select a topic relevant to this week’s material):

  • Attitude Inoculation: Explain how exposing individuals to weaker arguments can build resistance to stronger arguments encountered later. Define "argument" in the social psychological sense and relate this concept to current events.
  • Balance Theory: Describe how the desire for consistency between thoughts influences attitudes, and relate this to advertising strategies that associate products with liked persons or objects.
  • Is Persuasion Bad?: Discuss the positive and negative aspects of persuasion, including its use in advertising, leadership, psychotherapy, and parenting.
