The effective utilization of library databases is essential for academic success, particularly when conducting research using resources like EBSCOhost. This tutorial provides a comprehensive guide on accessing and navigating EBSCO databases at Grantham University, emphasizing efficient search strategies and resource management. EBSCOhost is accessible via the university's Blackboard homepage or through G-Life resources, ensuring students can conveniently retrieve scholarly articles essential for their coursework and research projects.

Initially, users are instructed to access EBSCOhost by clicking the platform's logo on the portal. Once on the platform, options like Academic Search and Business Source are available for targeted searches. To refine searches further, the Advanced Search feature allows students to limit queries by specific fields such as Title or Author, enhancing accuracy and relevance. For example, when searching for specific articles, students should input precise titles and limit to Full Text to ensure immediate access to complete articles. This process minimizes time wasted on irrelevant results and streamlines the research process.

Searching strategies are further optimized through keyword searches. Students are encouraged to think of related synonyms and broader concepts to broaden or narrow results effectively. For instance, when researching cyberbullying, relevant keywords include social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and general terms like cybercrime, bullying, and social media. Similarly, for topics like global warming, keywords extend to climate change, environmental issues, renewable energy sources, and endangered species.

The tutorial emphasizes the importance of using the platform's tools, such as viewing articles in HTML or PDF formats. PDF articles are scanned copies that can be saved, printed, or emailed directly from the platform, making resource sharing and referencing more accessible. The inclusion of the Adobe toolbar facilitates easy management of scanned articles. Users are also advised to use the search box for subsequent searches or to initiate a new search, encouraging efficient navigation.

For additional assistance, students are directed to contact the university librarian via email or Skype. This ensures that support is available for troubleshooting access issues or refining search strategies. Mastery of these database tools and search techniques is vital for developing research skills that are applicable across academic disciplines, fostering independence and confidence in scholarly investigations.

Overall, effective use of EBSCOhost resources involves understanding the platform’s interface, leveraging advanced search options, using precise keywords, and utilizing available tools efficiently. These skills enable students to gather comprehensive, relevant sources necessary for academic writing and research, thereby enhancing the quality and credibility of their work.
