Environmental scanning is a useful tool to create awareness and knowledge of how information relates to current environmental conditions
Environmental scanning is a useful tool to create awareness and knowledge of how information relates to current environmental conditions. It is usually specific to a topic. For this course, the topic is microeconomics, or any aspect of that topic discussed in the text. The process involves perusing and gathering articles from various media sources that pertain to that topic.
The sources must be as reliable as possible and should be current, ideally not more than one week old. Sources can include news websites, business databases from the library, newspaper and magazine sites, and any other sources that provide up-to-date, reliable information. The article does not need to directly reference textbook chapters but must pertain to microeconomics in some way. This should be specified in your summary and/or impact statement. The purpose is to connect the textbook concepts to real-world events and explain how the economy influences our daily lives.
The process includes preparing a page of information that contains the following details for each article:
- The title of the article
- The source of the article
- The date of the article
- The URL for the article
- The author of the article
- A strong summary of the article
- An explanation of how the article's information could impact you now or in the future
This information can be transposed into a Word document and uploaded to the drop box when completed. Each article submission is worth 20 points, and submitting more than ten articles can earn extra credit.
The grading criteria specify that articles must be no older than seven days, originate from reliable sources, include all required details, and have your name on the submission. If working in a team, only ten articles are needed for the entire group. For questions or clarification, please contact the instructor.
