Explain what speech/video you chose and why. Include a URL so we can easily go there to watch it and you can get back there easily. Just below every video talk there are categories of material that you should read through, such as “Details” (information about the speaker), “Transcript” (use this to check the accuracy of your quotes when you want to quote from the talk), “Footnotes” or “Reading List” (there are often related resources here) and “Comments” (see what the conversation about the video has been like—what do people agree with, question, have concerns about, etc.).
Skim these categories and make notes below about what you see and what could be useful to you as you explain the speaker, the context for the speech, and how other people feel/what they think about the speech.
Write about who the speaker is—anything relevant to how the audience would likely perceive him/her. Write out everything you can about the context for the speech (date, situation, current events). List the points the speaker made, your personal connection, and possible relevance to your readers. Include at least 1-2 ideas for your controlling idea, 3-5 potential titles, and a few options for your introduction’s opening sentences. Consider how each body paragraph could start with a topic sentence that explains the usefulness of a point the speaker makes. List 3-4 quotes from the speech that you might focus on, providing context and proper citation. Write at least two personal experience examples relevant to your project. Think about possible questions or perspectives that could enrich your paper. Consider credible sources—you should include at least 2-4 references that support or offer alternate perspectives, with concrete, properly formatted citations.
