References REPORT ON PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION 5 Student's name: Emmanuel Domenech Professor's name: Natasha David-Walker Topic: Report on Professional Organization Institution: University of Maryland University College Date: April 28, 2019 Report on Professional Organization in Software Development Professional Organization Google is one of the largest technology companies in the world and one of the leading software development companies in the world. The company started operations in 1998 as an internet search tool that provided users with suggestions of web pages that have the content, they are looking for online (Thompson, 2019). The company introduced a different method of providing search results, by using the importance of a page as determined by how popular it was on the internet. This ensured that users got the most relevant content on the internet after a search. In addition to its popular search engine, Google is also one of the largest software development companies in the world. The Android platform is the most popular software developed by the company that is widely used in mobile phones across the world. The company also creates software for its different products including its smartwatch, television, and cars. Most of the company's services also involve the preparation of software for use on the internet through applications. The company has over twenty different applications that offer users a variety of solutions, including photo editing, spreadsheets, word processing, and software development. The main focus of the company is to provide internet users with the information they need spontaneously by effectively organizing internet content with the goals of ensuring users get only the essential information (Thompson, 2019). The company's vision is to reduce the amount of time that users spend on the internet while trying to get information. Description of Conference The Google, I/O developer conference, is an annual conference that is held by Google at its corporate offices in California. The event is organized mainly for software developers and features a variety of topic on recent trends in the software development industry. The conference is meant to provide information to software developers on practical tools and techniques that they can use to improve their productivity and ensure that their work conforms to the recent trends in the industry. The conference also tries to provide developers with information that can help them work successfully with different Google applications in the course o software development. Developers that create applications that are primarily meant for the Google Play store get updates on recent changes that are being made on the Android platform, which enables them to improve the quality of their applications significantly. The most recent Google developer conference was held in 2018, at the company’s corporate offices in Menlo Park California. One of the main topics covered at the event was the new Android platform that had been recently released by the company and its key features (Prater, 2018). Software developers were provided with information on its key design features and the capabilities that it can support in terms of applications. The design patterns that can be supported by the Android platform were also explained at the conference. For software developers that work with different Google internet applications, information was provided on the most recent changes that had been made to the company’s different applications and what this would mean for developers. Lastly, the conference focused on the growing fields of virtual and augmented reality from a software development perspective. One of the most exciting topics that were covered at the event was the need for the development of applications that support virtual reality (Dossey, 2018). Virtual reality refers to the development of applications including both hardware and software that simulate real-life events and is one of the most rapidly growing fields of computing. The conference explored the support provided by Google for the development of virtual reality systems. The conference also covered subsections of virtual reality such as augmented reality. Augmented reality involves the enhancement of real-life experiences using technology, and is also one of the fastest growing software development areas that are supported by Google. Personal Applications From the exercise, I have learned a great deal about software development and the support that top tier software companies such as Google provide to the software development community globally. The exercise has shown that one of the most critical aspects of software development is keeping up with recent trends in the software industry, and ensuring that what one develops includes the most modern features and applications. It is therefore crucial in the software development profession to keep up with changes that may be taking place in the industry, as this significantly impacts on projects that one may be working on. Google is one of the largest software development companies that in addition to creating its software, also creates frameworks that can be used by other software developers to create their software. Google also consistently provides support to developers that use its systems and application when working on software projects. In general, the exercise has been very insightful about the field of software development. References Dossey, A. (2018). Google I/O 2018: The Biggest Highlights From This Year’s Developer Conference. Paper For Above instruction
This paper examines the critical issue of gender violence, exploring its definitions, regional impacts, causes, and responses through case studies, with a focus on women's experiences and empowerment. It emphasizes the importance of understanding gender violence to promote peace, justice, and human rights worldwide.
Introduction to Gender Violence
Gender violence encompasses a range of harmful behaviors directed at individuals based on their gender, with women often being the primary victims in many contexts. It includes physical, emotional, sexual, and structural violence, rooted in societal norms, cultural practices, and systemic inequalities. Recognizing and addressing gender violence is essential for advancing gender equality and human rights (World Health Organization, 2013).
Objectives of the Study
The primary objectives are to define gender violence, explore regions most affected, analyze underlying causes, and discuss efforts aimed at prevention and empowerment. Additionally, the study seeks to understand why victims often stay despite violations and the role of globalization and activism in addressing the issue.
Statement of the Problem
Discrimination and violence against individuals based on uncontrollable attributes such as gender, race, or ethnicity constitute significant social problems. Women are disproportionately affected by gender violence, which impairs their safety, dignity, and human rights. Such violence stems from deeply ingrained societal norms that perpetuate inequality and oppression.
Definition and Explanation of Gender Violence
Gender violence refers to any harmful act directed at a person's body or psychological integrity based on gender identity or expression. It includes domestic abuse, sexual harassment, trafficking, honor killings, and workplace violence, often justified or tolerated by cultural or legal frameworks that reinforce gender inequality (Heise, 2011).
Regional Overview of Affected Areas
Regions most affected by gender violence include South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and parts of the Middle East. Cultural practices, legal systems, and socioeconomic factors influence the prevalence and severity of gender violence in these regions. For instance, child marriage and honor crimes are prevalent in South Asia, while femicide remains a critical issue in Latin America (UN Women, 2018).
Case Study: Accountability in Maquiladoras
The maquiladora industry, especially in Mexico, exemplifies gender violence related to poor working conditions. Women workers face exposure to toxicity, wage exploitation, and unsafe environments that sometimes lead to fatal incidents. Labor unions have played varying roles in addressing these issues, with some advocating for workers' rights and others complicit in neglect. Women's rights are integral to human rights, yet many victims remain in abusive situations due to economic dependency, fear, or lack of empowerment (Carrillo & Ovalle, 2017).
Empowerment and Globalization
International movements, such as the Movement of Justice by women workers and activism in global frameworks like CEDAW, aim to empower women and hold perpetrators accountable. Virtual and augmented reality technologies are also being employed for awareness and training programs. Despite challenges, these efforts contribute to shifting societal attitudes and strengthening legal protections for women (Friedman, 2019).
The Importance of Learning about Gender Violence
Understanding gender violence is crucial for developing effective policies, empowering victims, and promoting gender equality. Education fosters awareness and resilience, while engagement with global activism provides avenues for change. Learning about this issue also highlights intersectional impacts and emphasizes the universal need for human rights protections.
Conclusion
Gender violence remains a pervasive violation of human rights, requiring concerted efforts at local, national, and global levels. Through legislative reforms, empowerment initiatives, and societal attitude shifts, progress can be made. Education and activism are vital in fostering a world where gender violence is eradicated, and equality prevails.
