Guidelines for Final Project You are to prepare a final project which will apply what your learned from this class into problem solving venture. This project should incorporate all that you have learned and summarizes what the project is all about. The project is to challenge you to extend the skills learned in this class and to experiment with new skills. The project should include two parts (the application itself and its documentation).

A. Focus of the project

Project Development You should select a business related topic (i.e. a decision on purchase or lease a car, a decision on rent or purchase a house, manage a business with multiple divisions (annual sales, expenses and profit), a professor’s gradebook, Decision on the choices of colleges, managing a student club and running a business using database to manage all the record (i.e. project, customer and suppliers), and managing a scholarship fund, and so on). The type of project topic should be clearly defined.

B. Skills applied and expanded for your final project

The following outline is the suggested criteria to be addressed within the project. They are guidelines only, and may be modified as appropriate, following student consultation with the instructor.

  1. Creating a worksheet and Chart
  2. Use of formula, functions and formatting
  3. Working with large sheets
  4. Using SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, Round, and PMT functions
  5. Working with What If analysis and Vlookup and/or PMT functions
  6. Working with multiple worksheets
  7. Using database functions in excel (creating, sorting and query a table and create a report)

Paper For Above instruction

The final project for this course is a comprehensive application of the skills learned, designed to solve a real-world business problem through effective data management and analysis using Microsoft Excel. This project not only consolidates the theoretical knowledge acquired but also encourages experimentation with advanced features of Excel to enhance problem-solving capabilities in a business context.

The focal point of this project is to develop a business-related scenario that requires sophisticated data handling, analysis, and presentation. Possible topics include evaluating options for purchasing or leasing a vehicle, deciding between renting or buying a house, managing the financials of a multi-divisional business, maintaining a gradebook for an educational setting, selecting colleges, overseeing a student organization, or managing a scholarship fund. The selected topic should be clearly defined to facilitate targeted data analysis and decision-making.

To construct a robust final project, various Excel skills and features will be employed and expanded upon. Firstly, creating and formatting worksheets is fundamental, along with the design and implementation of charts to visually interpret data. The project must demonstrate proficiency in constructing complex formulas and utilizing functions such as SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, ROUND, and PMT to perform calculations relevant to the business scenario.

Advanced analysis techniques are essential to enhance decision-making. This includes applying "What If" analysis to evaluate different scenarios and using VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP functions to retrieve data dynamically. The project should also involve managing multiple worksheets to organize data effectively, ensuring that information flows seamlessly across different sheets.

Furthermore, the project should incorporate database functions in Excel, such as creating tables, sorting data, querying tables, and generating reports. These features enable handling large datasets efficiently, producing meaningful insights that support sound business decisions.

The documentation of the project is equally important. It should clearly outline the objectives, data sources, methodologies (including the formulas and functions used), and the insights gained. Proper documentation ensures the project's transparency and replicability, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of Excel’s capabilities.

Overall, this final project aims to integrate technical Excel skills with critical thinking to solve a pertinent business problem. The successful completion will demonstrate mastery of spreadsheet development, data analysis, and reporting, preparing students for real-world applications in various business environments.
