Introducing my project on the contentious debate between life in prison and the death penalty, I aim to explore the ethical, legal, and societal implications of both punishment methods. Proponents of life imprisonment argue it allows for justice without the risk of wrongful executions and offers the possibility of rehabilitation. Conversely, supporters of the death penalty believe it provides a definitive punishment that deters crime and delivers justice for heinous acts. My thesis contends that while both options aim to serve justice, the moral and practical issues surrounding wrongful convictions and state-sanctioned death make life imprisonment a more ethically sustainable choice.

Throughout my process, I found developing the structure of my argument to be straightforward, yet selecting compelling evidence proved challenging. I feel somewhat confident about my progress but recognize the need for refinement, especially in balancing perspectives. My thesis statement feels solid, but I wish to strengthen it further during revisions by incorporating recent empirical data and case studies. The most challenging step has been addressing the emotional weight of the debate, while summarizing the key points and organizing my evidence has been the easiest. Overall, this project has deepened my understanding of criminal justice ethics and sharpened my critical thinking skills.
