Conversely, misalignment can lead to disengagement, frustration, and decreased quality of care, ultimately affecting patient outcomes negatively.

Research indicates that values alignment bolsters nurse engagement by fostering a shared sense of mission and purpose within the workplace. For instance, a hospital emphasizing compassion and patient-centered care tends to motivate nurses who prioritize these values, leading to increased commitment and better patient interactions (McAteer et al., 2018). A culture that values transparency, continuous learning, and shared decision-making creates a supportive atmosphere conducive to health promotion and disease prevention (Shahid et al., 2021). For instance, organizations that prioritize health literacy initiatives and empower nurses to educate patients foster a proactive approach to health management. These efforts align organizational goals with public health objectives, leading to improved patient education, adherence, and overall health outcomes.

An illustrative example from my professional experience involves a hospital where the organizational value of patient safety did not fully align with the nurses' commitment to compassionate care. Nurses felt that strict safety protocols, while essential, sometimes hindered personalized patient interactions. This misalignment led to decreased engagement among staff and occasional lapses in patient-centered approaches, negatively impacting patient satisfaction scores. Addressing this required revising communication strategies to incorporate nurses' insights, emphasizing respect for their expertise, and fostering shared decision-making. As a result, nurse engagement improved, and patient outcomes, including satisfaction and safety metrics, showed notable enhancement.
