CDC Antibiotic Stewardship Initiative Discussion Paper Construct a professional paper that outlines the advanced practice role – as a nurse educator, a nurse leader, or a nurse practitioner – to advance the CDC’s antibiotic resistance initiative.

The paper needs to be a minimum of six (6) pages [excluding title and reference pages] consistent with APA style without an abstract page. The paper is worth 40 points. Please include the following:

  • Introduction that identifies your advanced practice role and your view of how that role will be able to impact the antibiotic resistance dilemma. Support your discussion with at least two references from the literature.
  • Review the CDC’s goals and identify one of the CDC’s key strategies that you will be able to promote/support in your advanced practice role. Support your discussion with at least two references from the literature.
  • Discuss three activities/actions that you will develop to support the promotion of the key strategy that you identified in item 2 above. Each action/activity needs to be well designed and supported with at least one reference from the literature. (For example, if you are a nurse educator student – in what course(s) will you be able to promote your identified key strategies, be specific about what that would look like using example lesson plan(s), identify any active learning strategies you will utilize, etc., and provide justification for your strategies; if you are a nurse leader student – what program(s) and activities will you engage with relative to your organization, be that existing programs or creation of new programs, reporting mechanisms, development of collaborative committees, etc., and provide justification for your strategies; if you are a nurse practitioner student – what prescribing practices, patient education practices, monitoring programs, etc., will you engage with, and provide justification for your strategies).
  • The paper is to be formatted according to APA style.

Paper For Above instruction

The guidelines provided include multiple prompts, but the primary focus is on developing a professional paper that addresses the CDC’s Antibiotic Stewardship Initiative from the perspective of an advanced practice nurse role—be it nurse educator, nurse leader, or nurse practitioner. This paper must be a minimum of six pages, excluding title and references, formatted in APA style and without an abstract. It should comprehensively explore the impact of the selected advanced practice role on antibiotic resistance, aligning strategies with CDC goals and proposing specific activities to support these strategies, supported by credible literature.

The first component requires the author to clearly identify their advanced practice role and articulate how this role can influence efforts to combat antibiotic resistance. For example, a nurse educator might focus on integrating antibiotic stewardship principles into curricula, while a nurse leader might develop organizational policies to promote judicious antibiotic use. The discussion should be supported by at least two scholarly references that establish the relevance and influence of the role in addressing antibiotic resistance.

Next, the paper should review the CDC’s primary goals related to antibiotic stewardship and select one key strategy for promotion. The strategy might involve enhanced prescriber education, patient engagement, or surveillance systems. Supporting this choice, at least two references from the literature should substantiate its importance and applicability within the contextual role.

The third section focuses on actionable plans—three specific activities or initiatives—that will support the promotion of the chosen strategy. Each activity should be purposefully designed, evidence-based, and justified with at least one scholarly reference. For example, a nurse practitioner might implement patient education programs on medication adherence, or a nurse leader could initiate quality improvement projects focused on prescribing practices. The plan should be detailed enough to demonstrate how these activities would operationalize the strategy in real-world settings.

Finally, the entire paper must adhere to APA formatting guidelines, including proper in-text citations, page layout, and references. Drawing from credible literature ensures that the proposed activities and strategies are grounded in current best practices and research, ultimately supporting the overarching goal of advancing antibiotic stewardship through the strategic role of nursing professionals.
