Paper For Above instruction

Jacqueline Woodson’s novel Another Brooklyn explores the complex realities of adolescence, friendship, and identity within a black community in Brooklyn. Influenced by this work, my research focuses on how urban environments shape adolescent identity formation, with an emphasis on racial and socio-economic factors. The purpose of my research is to examine the impact of urban neighborhoods on Black youth's development, considering both societal challenges and resilience strategies. I aim to answer questions about how environment and community influence young people’s sense of self and prospects. Key words for research include “urban youth identity,” “racial dynamics in education,” “socio-economic factors in adolescence,” and “African American community in Brooklyn.” My working thesis posits that urban environments significantly influence Black adolescents' identity construction by shaping their experiences, opportunities, and community interactions. I envision using a combination of thematic organization, illustrating different aspects of urban influence, and chronological structure to trace development over time. Likely sources include peer-reviewed articles such as Harper (2012) on urban youth and identity, Johnson (2008) on socio-economic impacts, and Williams (2015) on racial dynamics, as well as popular sources like the New York Times reporting on Brooklyn’s urban youth issues. I am concerned about balancing academic rigor with engaging storytelling and ensuring I adequately address diverse perspectives within my paper.
