Paper For Above instruction
1. Provide a short overview of your daily nursing responsibilities in delivering patient care according to the video attached.
In my day of caring for the patient, my responsibilities encompassed monitoring vital signs, administering medications as prescribed, assisting with hygiene and mobility, and ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety. I engaged in close observation to detect any changes in the patient’s condition, documented all care activities meticulously, and maintained effective communication with the healthcare team. Additionally, I provided emotional support, addressed patient concerns, and used clinical judgment to respond to emergent needs, ensuring a holistic approach to patient care as demonstrated in the video.
2. Address your learning experiences utilizing the 4 Student Learning Outcomes listed below:
- Explain how you can engage in patient care coordination to collaborate with others to develop an intervention plan that considers determinants of health, available resources, and activities that contribute to health and prevent illness, injury, disability, and premature death, and how your knowledge of critical thinking, skill performance, collaboration, caring, and professionalism ties in.
Through active participation in interdisciplinary communication and team meetings, I learned the importance of coordinating care to address the patient’s comprehensive needs. By collaborating with physicians, therapists, and social workers, I contributed to developing an intervention plan tailored to the patient’s social determinants of health, such as access to resources and socioeconomic factors. Critical thinking enabled me to evaluate patient responses, apply evidence-based practices, and adapt interventions accordingly. This collaborative effort exemplifies professionalism and caring by prioritizing patient-centered outcomes and ensuring holistic care that promotes health and prevents further complications.
- Explain how you can use research and translation to integrate and apply nursing knowledge and skills that lead to improvements in patient outcomes and how your knowledge of critical thinking, skill performance, collaboration, caring, and professionalism ties in.
In the clinical setting, I applied current research evidence to guide nursing interventions, ensuring practices align with the latest standards. For example, I utilized research on infection control protocols to prevent hospital-acquired infections, fostering safer patient environments. Translation of research into practice required critical appraisal skills and collaboration with team members to incorporate best practices. My professionalism facilitated respectful communication and ongoing learning, which improved patient outcomes by providing evidence-based, safe, and effective care.
- Explain how you used information management to integrate and apply nursing knowledge and skills that lead to improvements in patient outcomes and how your knowledge of critical thinking, skill performance, collaboration, caring, and professionalism ties in.
I employed electronic health records (EHR) to accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and responses, facilitating seamless communication among providers. Proper documentation supported continuity of care and allowed for monitoring patient progress over time. Critical thinking was essential in analyzing data within EHR systems to identify trends and potential issues. Collaboration through shared information management enhanced team functioning, while my caring attitude and professionalism ensured data was utilized ethically and effectively to improve patient health outcomes.
- Explain how you used advocacy and policy to demonstrate professionalism, including attention to appearance, demeanor, respect for self and others, while upholding professional boundaries in the clinical setting, and how your knowledge of critical thinking, skill performance, collaboration, caring, and professionalism ties in.
I demonstrated professionalism and advocacy by respecting patient autonomy, ensuring confidentiality, and maintaining professional boundaries during interactions. My demeanor and appearance reflected the standards of the healthcare environment, fostering trust and respect. I actively advocated for the patient’s needs by ensuring their voice was heard in care planning and communicating concerns to the team promptly. Critical thinking guided my ethical decision-making, and collaboration with colleagues ensured that my advocacy efforts aligned with best practices, all reinforcing my professional role and commitment to high-quality patient care.
3. List at least 2-3 new knowledge/skills that you have learned and identify 1 that had the greatest impact on your nursing practice.
First, I gained new knowledge in the utilization of electronic health records for effective information management, which has enhanced my ability to document accurately and communicate efficiently. Second, I learned advanced infection prevention techniques grounded in current research, expanding my capacity to contribute to safer patient environments. Third, I developed stronger skills in interdisciplinary collaboration, understanding how collective efforts improve care outcomes. Among these, mastering EHR documentation had the greatest impact, as it is fundamental to ensuring continuity, safety, and quality in patient care, thereby positively influencing patient outcomes.
4. Provide a summary of your progress in meeting all of the course objectives and list the objectives you still need to meet or need to continue to develop.
Throughout the course, I have made significant progress in managing care to optimize patient independence and quality of life, applying caring techniques that foster therapeutic relationships, and demonstrating professional attitudes, values, and expectations. I have successfully engaged in team collaboration to develop intervention plans that are patient-centered. However, I still need to enhance my skills in health promotion strategies and deepen my understanding of policy advocacy to influence systemic change. Continued development in these areas will enable me to deliver holistic, high-quality care and advocate effectively for patients within the healthcare system.
